Did Not Meet Size Requirements??

Just saw my posted grades from the $5 Special submission. I think they are working fast, but dissapointed in the grades. These were the submissions from the 78 OPC Box I just ripped - some of you may remember.

The 78 OPC Murray came back as Did Not Meet Min Size Req's. How can this be when the box was legit? Anyone seen this happen before?

I got all 8s on the submission, except a 9 on the Ryan/Niekro K Leaders #9 and Palmer.

Also, got Evid Trim on 2 74 Munsons that I bought raw. I learned my lesson on the raw purchases once and for all.

  • Yes it does happen. If the Murray was miscut smaller than the usual card from that set than it is possible that it will come back does not meet size requirements.

  • balco757 do you have a 1978 opc gary carter
  • mnolan,

Yes, I have the Carter. I didnt send it in for grading with this round. It is a solid 8 for sure. Nicely centered. I see the pop report has only 2, a 9Q and a 8Q. Do you need it? PM me....

  • further proof PSA flubs it with legit size variatioins as you have found out. I had a 52 come back evid of trimmed and since they do not mark where their concern is you never know. It absolutely was square and matched my other 52s for size. I just wish they would point out where they think the trimming is. Really, how hard is it to mark a card saver with a marker?

Yeah, this is where I think BGS/BVG gets some real points. At least they'll tell you where they think the trimming has occurred. Here's an Orr that I got back as "trimmed". They marked the suspicious areas on the sticker.

Of course, I later sent this card into PSA and got a 8 image

  • Stone,

They may fit the size requirements, but they definately would not be able to be holded, er holdered.

    PM me if it's available.

    GG,

Min Size Req and Evid Trim are not the same thing.

Min Size Req means that the card is not trimmed but it wasn't cut large enough at the factory.

  • I understand that, however they still don't tell you in what ways it doesn't meet minimum size, nor do they tell you before you submit. If its a standard sized issue, then what are the "minimum size" requirements? Anybody know? Maybe they need a MC designation for miscut?

  • GG, I think the allowance is 1/32 of an inch. Anything more than that will most likely get returned as Min Size Req (assuming it wasn't trimmed).
    image
  • I should also note that the size requirement policy appears to be rather inconsistent. From what I've seen, a lot of the cards found with the mylar bags are more than 1/32 short. It depends on the issue, I guess.

  • Sorry for the disappointing grades, but on the bright side at least that statement didn't come from your wife/girlfriend!!

    Cool
I emailed PSA a long time ago and they said the most a card could be short is 1/32" and NOT show evidence of trimming.

For those who may not know, if the card is returned and not holdered due to "size requirement" - there is no charge for the service unless that has been changed as of late.

When you say cards look shorter - which are you referring to - some brands like the Topps Venezuela are shorter and they take that into account I believe. Plus, mistakes are made - that will always be there in the equation.
