Ouch! They'd better have a running series of specials like PSA does. $50 for 5 days?
  • yeah kinda steep..thanks for the reply

Do they charge less if the packs are brought in for grading at shows?

  • not sure, i just happened to be filling out a GAI submission form while i was reading this and those prices where on it..

I usually only send cards to PSA, but GAI grades Thick Jersey or Game Used Cards that PSA doesn't so i am sending them a couple to see how it goes, i guess they use the thick holders they use for Pack grading for the thicker cards.

I don't get it. Why would you want GAI to grade your cards when you can get them graded by the certified and trusted professionals at PSA? PSA will bring you top dollar for your cards when it's time to resell and you'll be happier with PSA in the long run. Trust me. image

I'd think he'd trust you more if you bothered to even read what he wrote. Since when did PSA start grading unopened packs?
  • lol, right brian

  • I was told the person who owns GAI worked for PSA at one time. I was told that most of their graders came from PSA!!!

  • Got My first GAI Submission Grades back.. I send in 3 Jersey Cards, heres how they came out..

2002 UD Tom Brady Pigskin Patches PPTB NM-MT 8 1st Graded
2004 ABSOL MEM Clinton Portis Canton Absoulute CA4 09/25 MINT 9 1st Graded
    2004 ABSOL MEM Ladainian Tomlinson Tool/Trade TT52 61/100 GEM MINT 9.5 1st Graded

Thought the Brady would be higher. Don't like how the soft plastic holders they use but no one else grades these.

My opinion, I Def would only send thick jersey/ game used cards to them or packs. Everything else goes to PSA.

Forgot to add.. Only cost $10 per card and had them back to me in Boston 3 Business Days later.
  • If you see GAI at a show, they will pre-grade the card for $3. Then if you want you can have it slabbed for $15. If you do it early in the day and tell them you won't be back the next day, they will grade it in a matter of hours for the same price. So your out $18 and you know exactly what grade your going to get due to the pre-grading. With PSA your looking at $35 with no pre-grade option for 2 hour service.

    FYI,

Same fee for packs? I have a bunch of Gretzky year rookie packs unopened.

  • There really are not any shows around here were they come and grade on site so when you think of it i am not out any money since i would probably have to pay for a plane ticket and hotel. And it is only $30 and i wanted them slabbed so in my opinion i made out just fine..
    Thanks for the Info though.

What do you mean by soft plastic holders? Are they like toploaders with a sticker on top?

At the Tri-Star show in KC when I've visited with them, pre-grade was $5 and another $5 to have it slabbed. So total cost was $10. I had them look at about 15 cards for me. I got a handful of 9.5s and 2 10's. I had them slab the 10's and I sent the 9.5's to PSA when I got home. The rest were 9's and one 6 that I didn't look at before submitting it. (an 04 Topps Chrome Eli rc that had a big dent in the back, picked it up at the show in a trade...oh well)

The thick jersey cards that they grade (01 SP authentic for example) go in the same type of blister packs they put graded packs and such in. They're pretty ugly, but some people don't seem to mind. They look just like the blister packs you packs in at the retail outlets now. Not attractive, but if you want a specific card graded, they're the only ones that will slab it.

dabighurt-seriously, you have to be working for PSA...nobody can possibly spew that much corporate pr and not be getting paid. Besides, he wanted packs graded anyway, not single cards.
