12 21915097 1887 S$1 USA MS62 My grade, MS62... nice rainbow crecent on the reverse

Of these coins, only the 1949-P cent, 1942-D dime, and 1887 dollar are mine. Proofs are not area of specialty, so I was pretty pleased that I hit within a point on each of them. The 49-P was a bit of a disappointment. I've made about 10-12 of that date in 66RD. That was probably the third or fourth nicest I've owned of that date. Even experts disagree sometimes... part of the "dice roll."

I'm REALLY happy that the submission didnt take 60 days... where the estimate was when I sent the coins in.

Nice and a good assortment however it would have been better had they all been Lincoln's.

Yah, but like I said, most of them arnt mine. The few that I sent in were tag-alongs. I have a bunch of lincolns that I could send in. The problem is that they'd be low mark-up submissions. At the time, the estimated turnover time was 65 days. ...too long to freeze up the cash flow.

I'll probably send in some lincolns now that the estimated time has dropped to 30 days.

Yep now that the grading times have come down I have gone through old rolls to look for some more stuff to fill out my sets some more. I am working hard at the 50's Jeffersons right now. I have over 40 at PCGS right now. I also have a couple shot 67RD 58-P's to submit.

too bad on that 49-P. Sometimes without context PCGS does not give the benefit of the doubt, but then again it is a hard year for 66's.

Yah, I hear you. The context issue bothers me. I like to think that context doesnt mater. I do think the graders are grading as they see the coins... but I also think that, from time to time, context would cause graders to veiw some coins a point better or lower.

The 49-P is tough! I've seen a few in 65 holders that should have 66'd and vice versa. Mine is a solid 66 but it took me about 6 buys of NGC 66's on ebay to get a really nice one that would cross. The others I just re-sold on the bay.

I had a similar experience with my '54-P.

Hey, nice strategy! Have you seen the William Corum set? He has some really low pop ms67's that he crossed from ngc. Maybe I should pursue this route now that I've been thinking of improving my short set coins. David needs to sell me his best 49-p and 54-p first though!

haletj - The strategy is really quite a long-shot. I'd say about 1 in 10 NGC 66RD wheats have a chance of crossing at the same grade at PCGS. The other 9 are mainly strong 65's/potential 66's but have something that'll keep them back.

When I do try this strategy, I always crack 'em out and submit raw. It's just my gut feeling, but I think PCGS is reluctant to agree with NGC (and certainly to consider upgrading.)

Also, many of these NGC's have been traded around a lot, so the real gems may have already been found.

Good advice! Actually, rather than crossing an ngc which would probably not be better than an avg coin for the grade, I'd just prefer to buy the super pq for the grade ones that already are pcgs (like David's coins hint hint image )

Buying NGC coins trying to get them to cross is a long shot. If you are going to take this route buy ANACS coins. I have much better success crossing ANACS coins.
