Latest Plat Proof 2004 Mintage Numbers from Director.

FYI to Board Members,

For any Plat Proof Collectors out there, I just got off the phone with Mike White( Director of US Mint PR Dept.) and here are the latest 2004 Plat Proof #'s, including 4 coin sets as of March 20:

One's: 6,011
Half's: 5,025
Qtr's : 5,159
Tenth's: 7,122

Mike mentioned the 2005's go on sale April 7 and he is issuing a press release today on that news.

These Proofs will probably be the lowest numbers to date for each of the denominations in the Plats both Proof and Bullion.

Wow those are low numbers. I better get my 1/2 ounce before they stop selling them.

Just over 5000 $50 1/2 ounce proofs seems low to me.

Just 4,763 Proofs were struck. The quantity is higher than normal due ...

This is from an auction listing in the upcoming ANA sale. This is for a very common Liberty Nickel proof. Yes, 5000 is considered a low number.

I bought one per year for seven years. Once the mint raised their prices to a level where I felt they were price gouging, I sold them and bought some things for the house. I can honestly say that I've gotten more enjoyment out of the surround sound (amoung other things) than I'd have ever gotten from the plats. To each their own, I guess.

    I still have the 2003 $50 plat.

Incredibly limited mintages... Breathtakingly beautiful coins, positioned nicely, especially considering the potential upside of the collector base in the secondary (slabbed) market.
