I think the Queen should start washing the pensioner's feet as art of the ceremony.

This reminds me, I need to get on with reading Silver Pennies & Linen Towels.

What does the 2005 Maundy money look like?

I was takin' the dog to the vet this afternoon and noticed a church billboard announcing Maundy Thursday. Interesting.

No pics available but here's a description of what will be given out:

"The coins will add up to a face value of 79p to mark the Queen's 79th year and will be handed to 79 men and 79 women. Each of the 158 pensioners will also receive a red leather purse containing a £5 coin commemorating the Trafalgar Victory and a 50p piece celebrating Johnson's Dictionary of 1755."

According to the Royal Mint web site the design is unchanged, so they should look like this:

Yep, taking place at Wakefield Cathedral I think.
  • Sounds like a very interesting 50 p commem.

I hope its mintage is not artificially tiny.

Should be a fairly good mintage ... the 50 p is part of the 2005 UK mint set.
