All this stuff has to dry up eventually I guess. I don't have a Topps box that early but I do have an OPC box from 76 which is a tougher year than some of the later stuff. I also have a 77 box but it's just not as scarce IMO.

Mr. Mint has an auction coming up where he has a GAI graded 76OPC pack with a value range that's a bit unrealistic - a GAI 8 Est. $125-300 ~ I wish!!!

I would have a very hard time buying anything this expensive from a seller with so few Ebay transactions. For an "unopened" box I would have an even harder time! I am thinking a seller with 5,000+++ feedback at least. Otherwise it is such a crap shoot.

pretty sure this seller is legit. I bid on a 73 football box from him when he came out with "0" feedback, I know the buyer and he said it was a nice box. also, he has sold a bunch of 74 football tray packs to knowledgable collectors. just an FYI as I have never dealt with him

I think knowing someone's background is more important than their feedback number. Right now I have feedback of only 33 and haven't as of yet begun selling my cards. However, I began in this hobby back in 1978 and took alot of years off, and as such I have tons of stuff from 1955 - 1980 that includes some unopened material. When selling time comes anyone who refuses to bid on my stuff will simply be missing out on an opportunity if they only go by my total feedback.

I hear ya. I will say, the way the stuff is presented will make a difference. I am considering having the vintage packs graded. The racks are clean and not a problem. Vending boxes, even if clean and having good appearance will evoke the ire of a person who pulled squat - I think that's part of the "fun" of selling on ebay?
Good luck when you're ready to sell

It's a really nice box, but I think somewhere along the way people lose touch with what's actually in the box itself. If the box is an "average" case-fresh box from that era, it will probably yield 1-2 Gem Mint cards and 15-20 Mint cards. Considering the lack of big RCs (besides Eck) and the fact that the set never really garnered much attention from collectors, it's clearly a case where the rarity of the box itself is driving the price up rather than the actual cards that are inside. The same thing happens in the wine market; certain vintage wines are price-driven by their rarity rather than the taste of the juice inside. I guess this is something that got lost on me as I never really collected unopened material, but to each his own.

Great point, i would have no interest in keeping this box un-opened. I lust for the meat inside. Not at that price however.

Lee, about the 15-20 Mint (PSA9) cards you speak of on average for these boxes. My 78 box yielded 64 cards that I am sure are PSA 9's and 5-10 PSA 10's. Unless my eye proves to be crap (submission goes out next week) would you say I opened a premium box??

Maybe i understated a little, but yeah, I would say you did ok. Any of the potential 10s stars? Maybe you could sell one or two (I know it would be hard for you) and buy another box. Last I heard, Steve had 8 boxes left in his case, but that was about 2 weeks ago. And buy me one while you're at it.

None of the hopeful 10's are stars. I'm good with that however, since I am the moron building this set. My hopeful 10's include the likes of Dan Spillner, Bobby Cox, Cardinals Team, Philles Team, Bert Campaneris, Greg Minton, Dodgers Team, Don Zimmer, Lee Mazzilli, Butch Hobson, Joe Sambito, Jerry Reuss, so thats 12. Maybe I am to hopeful but these are SWEET cards .

As far as the stars go in PSA 9 hopefuls : Carlton Fisk, Dennis Eckersley, Carl Yaztezemski, Skrikeout Leaders/ Ryan, George Brett, Lou Brock, Reggie Jackson, and Ron Guidry (a star in a Yankee fans eye).

Either way this box was loaded with nice centering. I am proud to just say that image

box looks clean in the scan, seller has some buyer feedback. However, if the box has been stored in a hot warehouse somewhere, then who knows how many cards are going to eat it due to gum and wax stains. Gum can even indent cards, I hate when that happens.

anyways, too rich for my blood.
Running an Ebay store sure takes a lot more time than a person would think!
