Congress has recently passed a new law and it is awaiting the signature of
the President to become the law of the land. There is a new and very real
risk to purchasing coins from sellers outside the USA - you may never get to
see them !

" The passage of this bill means that any customs official who has reason to
suspect or believe, for whatever reason, that an imported object (including
a single coin) might be from Iraq, or have some possibility of being an
object that was at any time in history a part of the cultural heritage of
Iraq, should impound that object and force the receiving party to prove that
it is not an object so described."


Now at first glance you may say - oh, well that only applies to coins from
Iraq. Unh huh - sure it does. And just how many govt. employees do you think
there are who can tell one foreign coin from another ??

You're preaching to the choir - many laws out there can be abused and more than a few are being abused. Various laws having to do with the 9-11 are being used in criminal matters for which they were never intended. There are never enough safeguards in place. Rights are being eroded away in this country. Slowly but surely the goals of the terrorists are being met. Our country is turning more and more conservative and our rights are being curtailed.

This isn't the place for this discussion ... perhaps the Open forum or perhaps we should just shut up before someone comes looking for us!
