Blackhawk: I'm not an SLQ expert, but I'd say AU-55 to AU-58 Full Head and Full Nipple, if the reflective field area around the eagle and around libery's legs is the result of light circulation wear.

Since according to the PCGS Price Guide it's about a $175 coin in AU-50, yours would probably be worth submitting since it should be worth at least $200 in that higher AU grade.

I'm going to throw my estimate out there: AU58. There appears to be some slight wear on the center of the shield. It also appears to be a full head. Worth slabbing? IMO - Sure! PCGS price list would be almost $200, plus it's an awesome coin.

Take my grading loosely. I'm still learning and going more by what I've read and seen online rather than from looking at coins in hand.

I'm not completely versed on the series but I agree with a 58FH grade. I think that's a really beautiful coin!

I'd agree high AU/FH. Is it yours, or is it one you're considering buying? If the latter, I'd be concerned about the blurring in the pic just left of "of" on the reverse. Is the seller hiding something?

Nice quarter. I like.

I can't really see the wear in this photo, or the difference between wear and strike. I thought this was an MS. Are the dark areas around the skirt and eagle oil from fingers or something like that? Is it that the dark areas in the photo reflect light differently and that makes it an AU? Seems like grading a photo is not the same as grading a coin.

It might catch an MS-61, but it's really an AU-58, Full Heard because of the rub on the knee.

Full Head is not unusual for a type I 1917 quarter. It just goes to show you that the guys who did the first design had it right. The guys who insisted on covering up Ms. Liberty got it wrong.

Hard to tell with a scan, but I would check the knee for a luster break or wear to see if it is AU. No rubbie on knee, no AU. I had PCGS grade a common date AU55 that had great luster, but obvious knee rub and a break in the luster.
