Coin, medal or token

1st time poster, long time reader. Anyone has idea of where I could locate something about this object, date, history, story or worth? If to big, I'll try to downsize. Thank you

Hi, welcome to the forum! I don't know much about Louis XIV medals but that's what you appear to have. Someone will wander by pretty soon though... image

Could be a marriage medal from the looks of it.

I cannot see the pics, so I cannot say. Welcome to the forum, though, Toothpicker!

The male bust does resemble the one of Louis XIV on various ECU and SOL denominations from the early 18th Century - at least more so than the late 17th Century ones. But, if there were any coins minted with he and his wife(?), Krause forgot to list them.

It looks to me to be a commemorative medal for the 1660 wedding of Louis XIV and Marie Theresa (a Spanish princess, not the Austrian empress).

  • I would agree that it is a wedding medal for Louis XIIII & Maria Theresa. I saw one in a recent auction sell for a bit over $300 not long ago - but it was AU condition.
