Double cut???

I was browsing E-bay yesterday looking for some decent factory sets, When I come across a Kruk Card auction for an 85 Donruss Factory set. Kruk's description of factory sets went something like this " Factory set cards are smaller because they are double cut, Therefore more 10's come from factory sets".
Has anyone else ever heard of this? I've never heard of it and I've collected cards for 30 years. But you learn something new everyday.(Sorry I dont have a link but I cant get on E-bay from work, I think it ended yesterday though.)

That's news to me. I thought factory sets where comprised of the same cards issued in wax. Just collated and boxed at the card co.

  • Wow, that's a new one. I've purchased a lot of sets from Kruk's cards and that's actually where I got both of my BGS 9.5 Clemens rookie cards from factory sealed sets.
  • They might be cut more than pack version cards, to get a uniform look and an exact fit in the box (maybe?). I know that some Donruss issues, mainly 85-87, are a little shorter (like 1/32) from factory sets. You can tell which ones are from factory sets because the printing on the reverse is opposite (or backwards) from pack cards. If you can find 2 matching cards like this (with opposite backs) one most likely will be shorter. Whether that is called a double cut or not is debatable.

LOL. That's a good one. Never heard of that either. For what it's worth, it sounds pretty
convincing coming from a big dealer like Kruk.
  • For some years, Donruss cards coming out of factory sets are cut a bit differently than those put into wax boxes. I know that the 1989 Donruss factory sets are all cut so that the corners are slightly rounded, rather than the square cut for those that are put into wax. I've had several Schilling PSA 10's that were from factory sets, they all had the rounded corners. I believe the 1987 donruss set is the same way.
