would this loupe be ok ?

I have been researching 10x loupe's I have found the one's at peak optics but cant bring myself to pay 80$ for a loupe. I have seen some fron 5$ to 10$ but they look kinda cheap, plus I wanted one I could measure centering with. Does anyone have any experience with this kind of loupe, it says it has a hairline scale on the lens, would that be what was needed to measure centering? Or should I just spend 10$ bucks on a cheap one and pretty much judge centering from a scan or with my own eyes?

You used to be able to get them from GAI actually. You can try emailing them. I know that loupe with the centering lines and the chart that goes with it was about $100. I forget the name of it though. But, for $8 you can get a magnifying glass that has a small light (helps with gloss, but not much else).

I think I set up my little "Grading Station" for about $15.

$12 on my 50W Halogen Desk Lamp (worth 10x that in what I save by not sending in bad surface cards)
$3 for my 4x/10x Magnifying glass
and my small metal ruler with 4 different sets of measuring scales on it was free from Sean @ GAI.

Those 3 things have saved me a lot of money, and made me a few bucks too. image The halogen lamp has to be the single most important piece IMO though. Amazing what you see...
  • Here's a source for good loupes, I use the Bausch & Lomb for watchmaking, my other hobby. image
