The Mets did not sign him because he was still recovering from an injury and would not be ready opening day.
The Yankees have Giambi and Tino Martinez and didn't take the opportunity to sign him. I know a lot of Mets and Yankees fans would have liked Olerud on their respective teams.
Where does he go from here. Now that baseball is in the post-steroid era, Olerud will stand out more.
We need to appreciate the pure hitters in baseball since the steroid power hitters are now a thing of the past as baseball cleaned up its act and now has players who are slimmer and lighter than before.
Seriously though, what is going to happen with Olerud, its like MLB has forgotten him. He wanted to keep playing and not retire. He is too good to just retire now.
Chances are that maybe the Yankees could be interested again and sign him in May.
