The Brady hype is getting out of control......

I can't believe there are so many people out there spending crazy money on this guy's RCs as, what I would assume, an investment. This year the Pats will have lost their offensive and defensive coordinators, and their two defensive leaders (Bruschi & Law). Those are four huge holes to plug up in a hurry, and it seems inevitable that they will not repeat as champions. The reason the Pats have been able to keep this "dynasty" going is that they haven't suffered multiple major losses like the champions in the recent past (Ravens, Bucs, Rams). This year is different. If I really believed that Brady was going to be the greatest QB of this era (which he very may well be), I would wait for the end of this year and start picking up his RCs when they cool off. Just my two cents on this whole Brady fanfare.
Not that anybody cares, but I think the following players will have their coming out party this year- Kyle Boller, Larry Fitzgerald, Todd Heap, Rex Grossman, Julius Jones. Who do you guys think will have a breakout year?

Larry Fitzgerald will depend on how Warner fits into the offense. His production will be hampered his entire career due to the fact that he plays for the Arizona Cardinals. Hope he doesn't have any desire to win a Super Bowl ring or he'd better start asking for a trade now. Anyways, receivers develop in their 3rd year not 2nd. One more year of learning in Fitz's future.
Todd Heap will be in his 5th year, and now you think he's going to have a coming out party? He's an above average tight end but even that's nothing great. Especially in the smash mouth Raven offense, where Boller is not allowed to throw the ball.
Rex Grossman is nothing special. See Kyle Boller. Two wrongs do not make a right (Crap QB + Crap Team).
Julius Jones is good. I think he had his coming out party last year when he had several 100+ yard games. That's pretty good for a rookie RB. Unfortunately Bledsoe will hinder anything that the Cowboys offense plans to do.
imagine an autographed Montana rookie card??
I think Julius Jones and Heap are the real deal. There is plenty of WR stardom on Arizona, so Fitz will have to keep up. I think
Grossman will be a bust. Boller will have to study some Trent Dilfer film.
If you really want limited, check out Larry Fitzgerald's contenders rookie card....only 50 of them.....who is that for rare??
OF course if you don't have 400 bucks lying around check out Julius Jones SPA Auto Patch /299 for 250-300
There is ALOT of talent in this past years draft. Julius Jones, Kevin Jones, Bell, Clayton, Fitz, Ben, Eli....any others, this cound be another
2001 type year.
If you want to put this into perspective, there were 1250 Brady SPA cards. It isn't autoed but sells for more than 600 now. Today guys
rarest rookie cards are sometimes as few as 50 or 100 cards and they carry an auto and a patch.....Can you imagine what people
will be paying if one of those guys does what Brady does?

I had the same opinion of Boller up until mid-last year. He was poised, didn't make his typical boneheaded rocket throws down the field to nobody, and the team believed in him for the first time. Throughout the season, his all-world OL went down, his star RB was suspended, his number one tight end was injured for half the year, and he still managed to come off looking decent (I watched nearly all their games). It took him a few years, but he has learned how to use his head instead of his arm all the time, and he will do well this year with the addition of a real wide reciever (Derrick Mason) and a healthy Heap, who is regarded by most NFL experts (not fans) as the best and most complete TE in the game. Keep in mind their number one receiver the last 3 years (Travis Taylor) was given the nickname 50-50 by his own teammates becuase there was a 50% chance he would drop the ball. Once Heap went down last year, who did Boller have to throw to? Kevin Johnson? I think you'll be surprised at how many pass plays Billick calls this year; he knows that the super-conservative offense can't work, but he really hasn't had a choice up until now. And for the love of god, please don't remind me about Chris Redman.
You're right about Fitzgerald in AZ, but I really do think he's the best WR to come out of college since Moss (maybe better), and I think as long as Warner has the smarts to throw to him often, he'll put up monster stats. If Moss could do it with Cunningham, Fitz can do it with Warner.
Grossman looked decent his rookie year and people have forgotten about him because he was out all last year. It depends how well Lovie can run the offense, but he's got a good head for the game and a gun.
If Julius could run over 1000 yards with Rip Van Testaverde running the offense, I don't think it will be much different than Bledsoe. I think all the Big Ben hype overshadowed a great rookie year on a crappy team for JJ.

That's bogas, he's the QB.. He's not EJ who hasn't even BEEN to the SB. I agree, TD cards went to hell. What did he really do? Rush for 2000 yards. Have more yards in the first 4 years than any back. HOF'er, NO... He had a short career.. Brady HOF'er, YES.. He's as good as inducted. You can't do what hes done and be overlooked.
As far as Heap, he had a real good teacher in Shannon Sharpe!

The Pats played their last 8, 9 games without Ty Law, and won the super bowl without him. He was expendible.
I don't see Boller ever maturing to a next-level QB....just not going to happen.
Fitzgerald's problem is who is he going to have throwing to him? Kurt Warner? I'd like to see him in a Bucs uni.
Grossman has shown a propensity for getting injured. Not sure if I see him going to the next level.
Todd Heap is a great TE, but how is he ever going to garner the attention he deserves on that team full of loud mouths? Unfortunately, TEs will never be seen as heroic.
Julius Jones? Who knows...Dallas is going to be in disarray for several years, especially with the Tuna and Jerry Jones warring over QB issues...and this RB is going to suffer as a result.
I think Mark Clayton, after a fantastic 2004, will build on that into 2005 and catch over 100 balls. The guy is pure money.
that Clayton wants the bucs to pull the trigger on Mike Williams. Can you imagine how many balls Clayton would catch having
guys 2nd and 3rd db's covering him??
Im hoping we can scoop up Travis Henry while no one is looking and then on to the draft and then on to Detroit.

Brady has already done everything expected of a HOF qb.
Almost always, when we witness greatness, we don't really see it until later on when we look back.
Is he really just one small piece of a nearly perfect organization ?
Probably, but the same can be said of Montana, Bradshaw, Starr, Elway etc.
As for a breakout star for 2005, WR Eric Parker of my SD Bolts appears to be primed for a huge year ...
"How about a little fire Scarecrow ?"
Well since the Bucs fans have weighed in and the "Brady Bunchers" eyes have glazed over (insert excessive swooning here), let's get real.
Odds are that Brady and the Pats will have a mediocre year in '05. Playoffs yes, Super Bowl no.
In 5 years Pats fans will still love Brady but wonder why he chose to drink the "Drew Bledsoe Kool Aid". Then "Tom Terrific" will pick up with another team and solidify his Hall of Fame hopes by finishing his career with a few above average years.
Not to sound too bitter, but I would concentrate on the McNabb cards. Maybe you guys can trade a few Brad Johnsons and some cash for a D Mac.

I agree with Jones coming out party was last year but you cant tell me that Bledsoe is not an upgrade from Vinny Testaverde. The Cowboys offense will be vastly improved from last year. While I am not 100% sold on Drew I still believe he will have a better year then Vinny had last year.

Brad Johnson Super Bowl Wins = 1
Donovan McNabb Super Bowl Wins = 0
Does anyone want a former #3 overall QB?
I agree. Brady's SP Authentic should be really high up there if Mannings' is, but his Contenders AUTo should be over $1,000 then. i am sure there is less copies produced than SP, and it's auto'd. The SP is not auto'd. I'll take 2 Contenders AUTO for every 1 SP Authentic RC anyday!
As far as best investment for the long road - easily, no question, HANDS DOWN - '95 Select Certified Curtis Martin Mirror Gold RC.
You can pick up nice, mint, ungraded copies of this card for as little as $20 on Ebay. You can't go wrong!! I don't care if the guy doesn't get hobby love, or he never wins a Super Bowl ( even though that would help a ton ), the numbers don't lie. He is a shoe in for the HOF, and not too far down the road, his cards will start skyrocketing - especially this particular rookie. It's his best in my opinion.
This guy just moved into 5th place All Time on the rushing list, and he shows no sign of slowing down. The Jets are very aware of this, so they let lamont Jordan go who was supposed to be the "next in line" once "old man Martin" retired. Think again.
He has a legitimate chance of catching Emmitt, but more than likely he will finish his career in 2nd Place All Time.
$20 PEOPLE!!!! His numbers are already there. He'll just add to HOF numbers now. These other guys have A LONG WAY TO GO. They may be future studs down the road, but the injury bug is always a possibility with anyone. In fact, anything is possible.
How many people jumped all over Anthony Thomas rookies in 2001?? How about Warrick Dunn back in '97? Garrison Hearst in '93?
Kijana Carter in '95? Maybe Napolean Kaufmann? Curtis Enis? Fred Taylor?
Yeah, we may have all blown some $$$$ on these guys back in the day, but aren't you glad that it wasn't this day and age where if you lost your a$$ on a rookie, YOU LOST YOUR A$$.
So maybe you spent $30-$40 on some Hearsts or Kaufmanns. For that $$$, you could have owned a ton. Now, you'd get a Topps base RC of any of the new rookies. Too much initial investment for me. A few good Roethlisberger rookies would cost you $400-$600. That's insane! I know they are more limited, and auto'd, but the injury bug, sophmore jinx, etc.. don't care about that.
If he turned into another Ryan Leaf, there would be lots of collectors ready to jump off a building because they traded away much better stuff in their collection so they could get their hands on "the next Montana". I never bought into the Roethlisberger hype. I wish I pulled his rookies so I could flip them, but I never spent the crazy $$$ others did. Great year and all, but it was more his team than anything.
Now he'll be missing Burress, maybe Bettis, etc.. Look for a big dropoff this year. Back to reality Ben.
