delivery confirmation problems...help requested!

I was wondering if anyone knows what the delivery confirmation policies are on ebay. I bought a couple of items last month, and the seller didn't accept paypal. So I paid via check and used their checkout system. the ebay checkout gave my correct address in Louisiana, however the seller saw my old address on my check from california. after not receiving my items, they informed me the items were delivered in california. Do I have any recourse if the seller decides to say "oh well"? They have 100% feedback of over 2500, so i'm assuming they'd rather eat a couple hundred dollar loss than take 3 neg bombs...but other than that do i have a leg to stand on?

  • I'm not sure how that would work out.. I guess the best thing that could happen is they would be sent back to the Sender/Seller as Undeliverable.. This may take a lot longer for you as the Buyer but if the seller is trustworthy then He will reship to the right address, But he might ask you to pay for the extra shipping.. I could see myself asking you to pay the extra shipping if the Check was the only Item I had to use as an address.
I would email the seller and let him know that they may come back..
This is my best guess but I've read posts and there are some Postal Workers here so Hopfully they will reply with all of the Info/ Options you may have

I would email and let him or her know. And wait a week or 2 for the item to come back to them. I know if it has my address and not my name I leave it in the box. And the mail carrier will take it back.

  • Call the Post Office in California that delivered your mail. The positive DC means only that the PO got it but it may get kicked back. Was a forwarding order in place? If you're nice they will want to help you. Spring for new checks because this will happen a lot. The most legible address is on the check, and if you didn't make it clear on the check or in the envelope that it's not to be shipped to the check address then you're as much to blame. Ebay checkout is ignored by most sellers. They just go by whatever they see in your letter with payment. Get rid of old address labels and checks.
  • Did you indicate "send to...(present address)"?

I had the same situation long time ago. A buyer sent a check and the item description on a paper (no send to address). from address on envelope is different from check address. Don't remember what address is on checkout. I emailed the buyer and asked where to send to make sure. Told me to follow the "from address" on the envelope.

I only wonder why somebody would move from CA to LA?
  • The item should have been mailed to what address is on ebay... That is where you brought the item from and where the contract took place. Yes, it would be nice if the seller and buyer had contacted each other about the different address...

I would not get rid of my checks, just correct your address until they are all used up. Being in the military I move around a lot and if I had to get rid of all my checks every time I got transferred I would be spending a ton on new checks...

I always send a copy of my invoice with my payment... Sellers love this way and it makes it easier on the sellers. The easier you make it on the seller the better service you will receive. I hate it when I get a check or payment and nothing is on it but the amount.

Ebay could care less what your address is on your check! EBay’s policy is to keep your address updated. Ebay will want to see the DC to your address on ebay, not the check.

I sell a lot on ebay... And if I did that... As a seller I would take the hit, because I alway double check the ebay address with checks.

The problem with DC is all it shows that it was delivered... It's not a guarantee that your item was delivered.

PS. 2500 100% Feedbacks... They didn't get this, by not taking care of customers... Their feedback tells you a lot! Work with the seller first!

PSS... Please keep us inform on how this turns out...
  • If you've move within the last 18 months your package should be forwarded to your new address. If you've got the delivery confirmation number you should look that up on the USPS website. It should say if it was delivered, forwarded, undeliverable as addressed (it would then be returned to sender), etc...

Whoops, you said it was delivered in California, then I'd call your post office in CA and tell the clerk to tell the carrier he's an idiot and he needs to retrieve your cards! Seriously if you've got a recent forward in, I'd be pissed.

  • Not sure if you know about this ebay program, but when I have questions like this one... It doesn't hurt to get answers from other buyers or sellers who have been in your shoes...
