Factory sets....

I have been buying a lot of unopened material lately and usually try to build sets from the onopened boxes I buy(graded sets for the registry). I happened to notice that BBC Exchange has some sealed factory sets from the eighties that I wouldnt mind trying. Does anyone have any experience with opening sealed factory sets and submitting them? This seems like a better solution than buying unopened wax or vending as you get the complete set and I believe factory sets come in thicker boxes which should have more protection than say vending or wax boxes.

  • I don't have a LOT of experience, but from the experiences I do have I prefer opening packs to sets. I agree with you that the sets come in thicker containers but the cards are normally up against the very hard edges of the box themselves. I have found this will ding the corners more often than say a pack of cards. In a pack of cards the top and bottom card will usually bear the majority of the damage, while most of the cards in the middle will be protected. This is just what I have found...

I would take the position opposite of ajmoeller81. I prefer sets to wax/cello boxes. The only problem with sets is it seems like it is all or nothing. If the set has poor print quality, rough cut, ,etc then the whole box is most likely like that. I've received my highest grades from sets and rack packs.
