1965-1970 Topps baseball cards - Counterfeits?

I am looking for 1965-1970 Topps baseball cards. If they are not graded, besides worrying about trimming, are there any counterfeits floating around on eBay or other places that I should be concerned about?

    Seaver and Ryan rookies and most of the Mantles.

    Carew rookie has been heavily counterfeited as well. Counterfeits have been seen of the Reggie Jackson rookie and some of the Pete Rose cards too.

    Additionally, the 1969 White Letter variations have been the subject of alterations on cards (changing the common yellow letters to white).

    How do they counterfeit them? Are they high quality counterfeits?
