Ebay auction experiment.....

I broke a box of 81/82 Topps basketball a while back, and instead of selling a complete set, and then the PSA graded singles, I decided to sell the set with the PSA graded cards to see if I would get more collectively. I thought this might get some bids from the relentless PSA registry set collectors. Here's the auction.

Would anybody hazard a guess as to what this might bring? Traditionally, this set and singles doesn't attract a ton of money, graded or not. I'm curious to see what happens. I'm also trying to tweek my ebay listing formula- anybody have any suggestions for me?

Just to make it a little fun, the closest final price guess within $5 will receive a free PSA 8 card from the 70s or early 80s of an HOFer. If this post would be considered spam I apologize; that was not my intent although I can see how it could be interpretted that way.

In response to your question about listing formula. You might try cutting and pasting the entire checklist of the set from the Internet into your auction listing. That way you will get set searchers and player searchers. And people will know the other stars they are getting in addition to the few listed. Just a thought.

Thanks for the advice mc. I think you all are a little high. The avg ebay value for these cards individually plus the set only adds up to about $80. I hope you all are right though.

JR, the uniform matches team photo of him I have from 1965 but could be 1966. Wish I had that Uniform hanging in the closet.

lostdart, it's offensive to me that you think I need help shilling this auction. I do just fine shilling my own auctions, thank you.... But seriously, Topps produced in essence 4 sets that year. A base set 1-66, and three different sets of #s 67-110 (east, west, and midwest). Topps was experimenting with regional specific product and they distributed this year as such. For example, if you lived in New york you could only get the east product. In essence, the base set is triple printed. The east is the most sought after because of the McHale RC. I think the midwest has RCs of Laimbeer and Mahorn, and the west has Magic Johnson Super Action.

  • My guess is $69.00
  • Back in 2001 I lived in Florida and traded the owner of Green Acres Sportscards a raw '86 TT Barry Bonds (PSA 8 at best) for a raw but mint-looking McHale RC... well, PSA graded the McHale a 9 NQ but from what I see on EBAY, it's becoming hard to give away '86 TT Bonds in an 8 or less... I'll always go for a more vintage RC card like the McHale over the crap that exists from about '86 on... obviously there are a few exceptions but not many.
