Topps Fan Favorites Baseball....

I'm not a modern guy and couldn't get caught up in the Heritage hype, even though I tried really, really hard. Reading about the Topps Fan Favorites being released in June gets me excited about a new product for the first time since 93 Finest. Here are some highlights:

"Over 120 favorites of the game will be AUTOGRAPHING for 2005 Fan Favorites Baseball including:

John Elway
Barry Bonds
Yankees GM Brian Cashman
Cardinals GM Walt Jockety
Giants GM Brian Sabean
Broadcaster Jon Miller
MLB Exec. Marvin Miller
Ernie Banks, Johnny Bench, Yogi Berra, George Brett, Reggie Jackson, Stan Musial, Cal Ripken, Mike Schmidt, Tom Seaver, Nolan Ryan, Frank Robinson, Wade Boggs, Brooks Robinson, Steve Carlton, Gary Carter, Don Mattingly, Duke Snider, Denny McLain, Edgar Martinez and many more.
And there are two all-new autograph subsets:

Rookie Dual Autographs (#’d to 50) include Nolan Ryan/Johnny Bench and Tom Seaver/ Rod Carew
League Leader Tri-Signers (#’d to 50) include Jackson/Schmidt/Brett, Mattingly/Boggs/Gooden and F. Robinson/Snider/Musial.
2005 Fan Favorites GUARANTEES 2 Autographs per box.

The 150 base-card set, which features never before seen photography on classic Topps designs, is mirrored by a Gold Bordered Refractor Parallel (#’ d to 25) and a White Bordered Refractor Parallel (#’d to 299).

The AUTOGRAPHS also have a parallel—Rainbow (#’d to 10).

Each box GUARANTEES a Relic Card from one of these programs:

(27) Fan Favorites – Game-worn from the likes of Nolan Ryan and Bo Jackson.
(27) Fan Favorites Rainbow (#’d to 25)
(6) Best Seat in the House
(6) Best Seat in the House Rainbow (#’d to 25)
(10) Topps Originals – This all-new concept features a relic embedded into an original vintage Topps card.
And new to Fan Favorites are the (1 of 1) Printing Plates. There will be 600 in all.

Topps will be featuring pieces of game-used items not on all-new card designs and technologies, but on original Topps vintage cards.

How will Topps do this?

Topps is going out onto the secondary market and buying back vintage Topps cards of several Hall of Famers and retired superstars. They will take two identical cards and insert a piece of game-used uniform or bat between the two cards to create a brand new card. Each card will include laser-etched printing, which will describe what type of game-used item is embedded into the card. The subjects include:

Dale Murphy
Jim Rice
Nolan Ryan
Rod Carew
Tony Gwynn
Wade Boggs
Andre Dawson
Brooks Robinson
Reggie Jackson
Gary Carter"

I'm downright giddy.

I bought booster boxes at Target last year and did really well! Contrary to my luck with Heritage - products like this were really cool!

My best pull was this Yount SP auto limited to 50 - altho not numbered. I also pulled an O'Neill and a Morris and a couple more but not sure. Had trouble even finding this one since I didn't put the set in a binder yet.

    Good luck!

wow! Mike, i'm pretty sure i saw a yount like that sell for several hundred dollars a few weeks ago.. i couldnt believe it! the description said something like it wasnt listed in beckett because of scarcity..

i'm almost 90% sure it was a topps fan favorites, and the guy called it a SP..

    Hi Perry
The card is listed in tuff stuff for 100 bucks - and lists it - Yount/50. If someone paid more than that, I believe they over paid IMO.

But, if you know anyone that wants it for 2 C notes, I'm in!

I buy like five packs a year, but Fan Favorites is a lot more interesting to me than Heritage. I think it's a great idea and the autos are fantastic. I'd love to see some scans of the good pulls people had last year. Who wants to share?

This product has always been popular, but don't expect to pull great cards. The bait is in the sell sheets, all the good cards will
be sp's, which means only 50 of each and this stuff isn't limited!

I thought topps originals was a much more exciting concept....a product that was ALL auto proofs! All those original 50 and 60's
topps signed up by Mays, and Yogi, and Brooks and Frank......

what they gave us was mostly cards from the 80's and 90's! When you plop down 60 bucks and pull Tim Rains and Jim Layritz then
you think twice about the next year. Needless to say originals are very hard to find and command big time prices! Fan Favs has
    followed the same path.

You can't beat 2 autos a box at this price point with the chances of pulling some of these guys. I think that Elway card will be out
of control. This is certainly a nice product to get caught up in, but beware there are plenty of duds!
