25 centavos of Cuba 1953

I usually collect U.S. coins, but I have a wide variety of world coins too. Last night while at a Starbucks cafe I recieved a 1953/ 25 centavos from Cuba. Could anyone help me determine if indeed its silver and was it really minted at the Phil. Mint? Its appears to be VF condition.
Thanks

Mintage for those was 19,000,000 and in VF condition is worth about $1.75 and yes they are sliver. I am not sure about them being struck in Philly. But seeing we were friendly with Cuba then it is possible.

It is silver and is common in all grades though not especially common in gem. Most examples
will be F/VF. If memory serves it was minted in Cuba.

  • Thanks for the information, seeing that I live in south florida I guess it not uncommon to get this in change, however being that I collect mostly US coinage I spoted this from the handfull and figured it was silver.

  • Hey CK
I thought Cuba didnt have a mint until 1977, before that I assumed Spain did their minting.

  • They WERE minted in Philadelphia and the U.S. regularly minted Cuban coins until 1960. The silver content is .1808 of an ounce.
