What a fraud. Anybody remember Mcgwire embracing Maris' brother after he broke the record, and said over and over what great respect he had for Maris and his place in the game? Well I guess he didnt have enough respect for him to quit shooting himself in the a$$ with steroids. Maris had to live for years with an asterisk by his name just because he played in a 162 game schedule. What should McGwire get for cheating? I think McGwire should apologize to the Maris family, and to all baseball fans. I also think all of his records and stats should be wiped out. As for the HOF...I wouldn't vote for him. What a scumbag.

I don't think Rose belongs in the HOF either. But I think you can say what Pete did on the field was legitimate. But hey thanks for missing the point of my thread completely and trying to launch a personal attack. Loser

I actually felt sorry for McGwire yesterday. He seems to be a good person from what little I know of him. Also, I don't know whether to believe those other guys (e.g., Sosa) when they adamantly deny steroid use. I am still going to wait this one out to make my final assessment with regard to the HOF. Keep in mind, McGwire hit 49 homeruns as a "skinny" rookie. But, my gut feel tells me that he did use them....as did many, many players.

Without the Canseco book - McGuire would have been fine. His timing was pretty good - THAT's why he left
30 million on the table to go into retirement. The whole baseball establishment is a mess and are clueless
as to how to fix any of it. Sorry, just feeling philosophical this am.

As the owner of some mcgwire items, including a signed ball, I'm certainly not feeling too good about his non answers _ particularly damning since he's issued denials (when not under oath) in the past. there's little doubt he'll get into the hall eventually, but it'll likely be a long time before the market for his items thaws.

They should put a astrik next to Cobb and Babe for being drunks! The didn't do dope, not roids or speed either, but they were always lit up like a Christmas tree. Mean as heck also..

The difference with Cobb and Babe being drunks is that alcohol is not a performance enhancing drug, they are
downers, just imagine how good their numbers would be if they were not drunks.
