How do you store your cards ??

I made a cabnet Its 8'2 long 4' tall and 25 inch's deep.. Yeah its big lol It has 3 bays and will house 21 drawers.. Its Solid Red Oak with popular for sub framimg.. I've thought about making these as single or 7 drawer cabinets.. Drawers are solid Red Oak and I put the lint free felt on the bottom to help stop the cards from sliding.. Heres a pic of one drawer less the solid brass drawer pulls

I just bought a 60 dawer card catalog at the university of Nebraska surplus auction. The thing weight about 90000 pounds!

It will work great, I just have to move some other furniture around first!

justanoldtimer, that is really something. That's only 1 of 21 drawers?

I posted this in another thread about storage:

This is part of a locking gun cabinet I converted with shelves to hold about 600 graded cards, with room for tallboys and large memorabilia in the bottom. It's bolted to the wall. The top shelf displays the cards I'm fondest of at the moment. Lower shelves have 5 rows of 25-30 graded cards per row. No room at the inn for commons, even '52 and '53 Topps, so I also use some sliding shelves in a big ol' Husky Pro tool cabinet. Maybe the simplest solution is to make the WHOLE ROOM very secure, then I can display everything out in the open.

  • Thanks guys I have 2 sons and 1 wants the cards the other wants the cabinet lol.. It will hold all of the top grading cards so PSA,SCG and GAI O yeah that other Co. too ( Sorry I dislike Beckett ).. Each row will hold 100 PSA cards so thats 600 per drawer.. The top 3 drawers in each bay are designed for Graded and the lower 4 drawers are for toploaders..

I'm a carpenter and have been restoring a 1.5 mil house for over a year now and most of my shop was moved there So I have 3 done and 4 close to finished.. It always takes me longer to do my projects , I should pay myself so I would finish them faster lol..
It wasn't cheap by any means either $300 per drawer and $900 for the Cabinet none of that includes my Time..
Heres the Cabinet case, The top is off in this pick so it could be moved into my office.

  • beautiful cabinets just! I have a liberty that holds all my guns and cards with quite a bit of extra room, but I sure wouldnt mind having something like that for some of my cards. It sucks not seeing them! But I guess they are atleast safe and fire protected in the liberty.

That's quite a wall display, ijustlovecards. It has to be a custom job, because there's nothing that large on the market. It looks like it's built into the wall?
  • Jr,

It is a frame display built which measures 80 1/4 inches wide by 60 1/2 inches long (top to bottom),

it is then secured on the wall after it has been assembled..

each row has a 1/4 inch deep trough for each card to sit in so the card can lean just a hair.

Most of the weight is on the bottom because the bottom has a large 2X4 secured into the stud of the wall, thus enabling the frame for lack of a better term sit on the 2x4, thus allowing only a few screws to be used to secure the display case against the wall.

I take it the room it's in is secure against burglars. Do you have similar displays for your vertically-oriented cards? '55, '56, '60 are the only ones I can recall offhand that are totally horizontal.

Be careful about displaying your cards. I have heard that PSA holders are not UV protected....I read it on this board and I am not sure if it is true though.
  • Jr,

Very secure, 3 dogs, alarm system one of which is soley in card room, total collection is insured, Plus other types of security measures not mentioned here!

    Gemmy,

Room is climate controlled, with no windows, the only light comes from track lighting "well placed" with a dimmer which allows for max protection...

  • you know you should never have shown me that, now I am seriously considering..however, dont you think a safe door takes just a little away from the decor in one's home? I am not sure I could "swing" that one...

    no pun intended..

But it def got me thinking...hmmmmmm...

I use the security firm of Beretta & Glock. I call 'em 9mm for short. However, they are off duty whenever I'm not here, so I am interested in securing the whole room so I can display things outside the safe and locking cabinets. That $2,500 vault door would certainly do the trick, but I'd be afraid of locking myself in!
  • JR- it has a panic bar/ lever inside just in case you shut the door while inside.. Plus you could sit in there with the backup 9mm to meet and great any safe crackers

I have found that duct taping two 5lb. cans of gun powder to the inside of your safe door is a good way to detour safe cracker. Just read a book and learn the places where they use the tourches. Sure your cards may get a little damage, but it will be worth it when they are identifying the criminals with dental charts.
