question on an 1836 capped bust 50 cent

Hi,New to the forum here,but have been following it for some time now.I have learned alot from all you collectors and i thank you for it.I have an 1836 capped bust half dollar,my question is about it being stamped on the edge 50 cents or halk dollar.Is that what they did back then?.I thank you for your answers.

Yes- the standard edge reads "fifty cents or half a dollar", but there were many errors that resulted in some gibberish english.....

Welcome Mackdriver.

In 1836 there were two major types of Half Dollars - 1) lettered edge (yours) and 2) reeded edge.

There are also differences in the designs of the coins.
