But, I do mind the fact that none of the few auctions I looked at even made a hint that the cards were reprints. There is also no mention of who the grading service was.
Now thats a ripoff to the unsuspecting. But still, even to the most ignorant of buyers....if it looks too good to be true......
Most people can't afford a real 1915 Cracker Jack Ty Cobb....or atleast not a 6 and up.
The problem I have with the auction is the add in of a certain dollar sum....almost implying that the card has a value of that. Example is the T-205 Cy Young graded Gem Mint 10. Above the scan it says "$150,000" I think that's just poor.
Buying 1957 Baseball PSA 8 or higher. Especially Checklists, and Contest Cards. Topps1957psa8set@aol.com
You find it odd that there's a only 1 bid (at this hour) of 99 cents on "$400,000" worth of cards, as is the case in one of the auctions for 4 "Gem Mint" Gehrigs? When even a single PSA 2 Gehrig would have 15 bids by now? Such cynicism!
I have all 4 of those Gehrig reprints, and many others, because I enjoy them and I can't afford the real thing. There is a legitimate place in our hobby for reprints. Even Topps recognizes this by issuing their own reprints of vintage sets and imitating the old sets with Heritage.
Unfortunately, reprints lend themselves to scummy scams like this one. As I pointed out in another thread about this guy named "Melanie," he wants $11.95 for shipping -- more than the 4 Gehrig reprints are worth.
I bid on the cracker jacks in order to retract my bid with "bogus reprints" as the reason, but ebay won't let you editorialize on the retraction. These aren't even good reprints
Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's
I think a lot of the activity comes from a buyer who thinks they are getting over on the seller...funny how a scammer will ALWAYS find a willing scamee, looking for a free lunch.
Unfortunately, until this greedy streak is cured, there will always be a market for scammers. It's been around for as long as money has changed hands...fake rolex's, etc. etc.
