How do you...........slabs

Question from an earlier post. How do you remove sticker/gummy residue off a slab because some idiot put a sticker on it. I tried windex and it helped a bit but seemed to smear and blur a bit.....That's why the pic looked so bad on the obverse, The other pic also looked bad. Coin in hand is simply beautiful.............EBAY Pic ...........Thanks Rick

Use finger nail polish remover and a cotton swab. One quick swipe and it's clean.

Goo Gone's the way to go. And if there's not too much goo, you can just rub it off with your thumb. I wouldn't put acetone on plastic.

Lighter fluid. Wipe clean with water.image

  • i just use warm/hot water and my fingers. you gotta rub it a bit and you can usually get it to all bead up in one area and then remove it. Then wipe down the rest with warm water and your tee-shirt or similiar cloth. I have successfully removed all of that sticky residue that is almost always on slabs when you buy them....

Acetone can melt the plastic slabs. I use WD-40 sprayed LIGHTLY on a rag not on the slab.

Goo-Gone or De-Solv-it are designed for cleaning plastic.

I agree with DUIGUY: lighter fluid.

I used to work in a guitar shop, and lighter fluid was the only solvent that cut through sticker gum without touching the delicate finishes of the instruments. Yeah it's flamible, but so is half the stuff you keep under the sink and in the garage...
  • Goo gone is great.

Goo gone and let it sit. Acetone will definitely make it irreparably worse. And fingernail polish has more than acetone in it.

Rubbing alcohol and a Kleenex or Charmin works. If you can get it the BEST is hexane or petroleum ether.

  • This does'nt really require chemicals or goo gone.Simple stretch smoe electrical tape over it and adhere it to the unwanted goo, then peel off slowly.Repeat as neccessary to remove gunk.Works for me. image
