WoooHooo!

FINALLY, after months and months of searching eBay, other auction sites, autograph sites, misc sites through google I found and won off of eBay a Terry Sawchuk autograph! It's extremely nice and from studding many PSA/DNA examples I have no doubt that this is the real deal.

He passed away in 1970 and was quite a jerk to strangers so he rarely signed stuff and when he did it was usually very sloppy.

Did you buy it from the person who received the autograph from Sawchuk? I would love to hear a story behind the auto, if there is one.

I asked a few hours ago after paying by PayPal if he had any information at all regarding the autograph... Still waiting for a reply.

  • I have no idea who Terry Sawchuk is. Cool name though, reminds me of one of the few hockey players I remember, Dave Andrechuk.

    Anyways, it's a beaut! Enjoy!

In short.. the greatest goaltender ever.. 103 shutouts still a NHL record. Second in all time wins. (Roy broke that before he retired)

    Nice pick up knuckles.
I don't think it looks anything like the one
    in your signature image

Photoshop it great. I wish the autograph really was on the photo in my signature though. image

I can't wait to get it in the mail. I'm trying to decide whether to send it in to PSA/DNA or not, along with two Jacque Plante signed postcards. Maybe cut the Sawchuk auto down to the modern card size so they can slab it in a regular sports card holder. It's pricey at $50 a pop per player.

  • $50.00 might be worth the peace of mind image Sounds like you've been looking for a long time and you won't be happy untill your positive its the real thing.. I like your Idea of cutting down so it can be slabbed, a perfect way to protect your prized Auto.

Yeah, that's a great idea! The thought of doing what austinchau did never came to me. Now I'm not going to get any work done today!

Glad you enjoyed it. If you care to view more 'Legend Spotlight' video's you can find them here.

  • Great signature, Knuckles. Also, thanks for the link to the video. I am thinking about a collection refocus and this might be the direction I take. Thanks, again.

    Thanks! and your welcome. image

What do you collect now? How are you going to change your collecting habbits? To hockey? Or are you thinking of collecting vintage autographs now? Just curious. image

  • I think I may give vintage hockey cards a try. I have been spinning my collecting wheels lately with 70's and 80's baseball and basketball cards. I have read articles about Sawchuck and Plante that make me think a vintage 60's hockey card collection in a reasonable grade, like PSA 6, might be the way to go for me. Any tips? Who are some reputable hockey dealers? Thanks.

I should really be getting paid by these guys for promoting them so often but they deserve it.. dmdclassics.com Their grading I believe is bang on and if you don't agree or like the card(s) they will refund your money with no problems.

They're great to deal with.. I highly recommend them.

As for collecting hockey I think the '54 Topps set is by far the nicest.

Here's a decent thread on these boards for you too flip through.

Congratulations! You know that I am a big auto fan and finding something like that is really gratifying!

The cut with a framed pic will look really good! I know some people would rather see it in a PSA holder but I like the cuts with the pic. What do you think?

My best pickup this year was KiKi Cuyler and Zack Wheat.

    Thanx for sharing

Thanks Mike. My 'master plan' for this autograph is to somewhat do what austinchau did which I'm sure you've seen here..

Then I'll mount the replica Terry Sawchuk mask I recently purchased from vintagemask.com onto plexiglass (altered to look like ice).. have two or three little ledges sticking out of the ice to hold PSA graded Sawchuk cards (one being the PSA authenticated autograph..)

Here's the design I made in Photoshop for the autograph.. (it's not quite done, it will have highlights beside his picture, Stanley cups won etc..)

    image

I'm going to make a back side for the card which will have his statistics.. then sandwich the autograph between the front and the back.. like Upper Deck does..

I liked the look of this Upper Deck signature cuts card and used it as a guide when making mine..
    image

If this Sawchuk turns out nice I think I'll put card collecting on hold and seek out more autographs to do the same thing too.. (I may chicken out though when cutting around the autograph) image

Wow! those are some very old auto's.. I'm sure they weren't easy to find. Eventually I would like to start collecting 1911-1935 hockey signatures.
