Just looks like a fake 2 1/2 Cornet to me.

Hard to say as there's not much clarity to the photograph. However, it looks like some kind of modern struck counterfeit. The hair detail looks all wrong to my eye. Way too bold and well defined. The slope to Liberty's nose looks too steep/curved. 'L' in LIBERTY is too far forward on the coronet. The stray 'Chinese' marks are probably just the forgers signature.

    IT'S FAKE....
Look at the link of an MS67 QE. Note the 6th star positioning at the tip of the coronet; note the angulation of the "L" in Liberty relative to that same 6th star. The real deal has it bisecting the field between the 6th and 7th; the fake is pointed directly at the 6th star. Also, the fake has stars practically in the dentils whereas most of the MS67 stars are further away. The lettering also looks rounded and not square on the edges. Also, the hair is a fantasy production and not at all subtle and softly curving like the original.......well, that's my 2 bits o' gold dust. image

Edited: The "1" in the fraction on the rev. is small and separated quite a bit from the eagle's right claw on the original; the fake has the same size and it's nearly buried in the talons. Same for the positioning of the eag's right wing between the "D" & "S" of UNITED STATES...
  • It is my understanding that the purpose of a chopmark is to identify the "who" that approved the coin as real. What would be the purpose of a chop too small to read?

According to the owner the marks are raised, not incuse, and the weight and diameter are correct for a quarter-eagle.

"Raised" would tend to raise some questions.
