I've seen blue toning on alot of coins but am wondering if any specific coin series has been known to tone blue more than others?

more specifically -- early 60s proof Jeffs. MS examples don't blue up. BTW -- a certain color/hue of blue can indicate AT.

Proofs:
Indian Head Cents that take on blue toning are very scarce and very desirable.
3CN infrequently take on some electric blue toning in a variety of intensities.
3CS and Half Dimes can often take on a gun-metal blue toning which some might say is gorgeous and others say make the coin look too dark.
Other coins can take on various shades of blue and sometimes it's just part of a rainbow affect the coin obtains.

Can you elaborate, maybe post a pic if you have one?

the proof coins pre 1916 dollars and under
usually tone more blueor i should say you find more blue toned pre 1915 proof coins due to their proof surfaces and these coins whre most likely bought by collectors and saved in albums original mint tissue and envelopes sometimes within all sort of boxes containers
okie we will start with the silver proof coins pre 1916 usually the blue toning is from sulfur albums as you see the rings of blue and these are scarce as usually if kept in the albums long enough they get different colors not only blue but there are some really great blue toned either bullseye or completely toned seated and barber proofs
and there are many dates like pre 1869 that well are so deeply toned you can barely see the coin or the mirrors not good
then you got the proof nickel coinage and with thbe three cent pieces and lib nicks you get this waht is called ice blue mint tissue toned look and this is from the original mint tissue the mint wrapped these coins in and they sat for long periods as these coins where for the most part unpopular and where just kept wrapped up like this even in large lots by dealers and never unwrapped and since they where usually unmolested coins not all but many they are some of the highest graded and you can read this also in the pcgs older edition large format grading guide the one with the color photos you see this written in the proof three cent nick grading section of this guide also lib nicks take on this mint tissue toned coloration not as much as the three cent nick proofs and the lib nick proofs many are otned blue from envelope storage and/or album storage but with other colors added to the coin
the mint tissue toned proofs are like this light to deep ice blue color and it differs sl;ightly from the lib nick light blue
i guess it is hard to show you have to have the experience of many years seeing coins and jus the right colors ohn them that only that the human eye can detect
i am sure there are other deep blues from envelope and album storgae too but the mint ice blue usually with some rose coloration in it if the coins where really deelpy ice blue then other colors start to appear like this rose and these coins are easy to tell as they have a cewrtian look and color variant to them that only a traineed eye of someone who likes these coins and have spent many years looking at them and studying them and have had many expamles to see even right outr of the original mint tiuuse can tell
so it is not an easy thing to just write an artivcle about or show pics the best is to have many idffdfent coins like these in fornt of you with a hands on experience taught by someone who specializes in such
now onto the copper indian head cents and the proof large and there little half sisters the half cents also in proof format
since evvelopes did not really come into vogue until the 1880's or there abouta sand the albums not until the late `1920's approx you got many color variations
and yes there are many biz strike large and half cents in major grading service holders that are blue but AT blue and this is another topic for another thread
but we shall concentrate on the original blue proofs
for part 2

Here's a link to a couple of coins with the "blue" color/hue which PCGS/NGC found to be AT.

you find many matte proofs like this due to the sulfur envelopes they where issued in
many indian cents and two centes in proof are wonderfully toned in blue both sides even blue both sides is rare and many are close with some magenta and rose along with other colors in them
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
the proskey proof indians of the 1880 to 1885 era come wonderfully blue and/or irideceently toned
two cent pieces in proof blue are really rare and the 1865 unheard of
usually these coins where stored for many decards in original mint tiuuse to get these colors and are deeply toned coins and escentally hairline free as they hagve not been played with while in collectors hands just left in the original nint tissue moreso the two cent pieces
usually many proof half and large cents have some to much blue in them due to the wrappers they where sotred in
to find one with the blue type of toning even on both sides is really rare they are like well all these coins as per the above as like chocolate brown undercoat and the blue sits on topof the choholate broan and it always sits a ceraitn way with a certiaN TINT TO it with many t9imes other colors the rare ones are even as possible blue on both sides the more even the rarer they atre and many dealers do not understabnd this look as they have not seen it so they do not understand it
i guess the human eye and having the coins to compair in front of you sight seen is the only way to really see this as such
Knowledge is the enemy of fear
2 nice blues there D.K. Here is a minstate 1877 with some blue coming through.

<< <i>There are so many blue Jeffs that they are no longer worth slabbing. I have one that's toned a beautiful blue metallic on both sides. >>
I agree but in a recent submission to NGC...I just had to include this stunning electric blue, purple and pink Proof Jefferson nickel.......even if it's just for my own collection
Oh...here's my contributions to blue...
Grip --- whats the cert # on the NGC slab? If it starts with 314 I suspect that it might be AT. I've seen and owned a couple of the Peace $ from that hoard and have always thought they were AT. Some are real pretty. I looked through about 70 of them at the last LB show.

Yes it was an NGC coin, and have since deleted it .No #.I was out bid and after the auction ,I thought
I should have had bid more.?Never sure with these toned coins.
