Humm, why not do that at first. Did he set his reserve at the same price the cards would sell if they were graded? If you are looking for value, I think it is already priced in.
<< <i>I know next to nothing about this set...but do have a question. I see that the wood grain border on the Campenella, Kaline and a few others are much, much lighter than the other scanned cards. Are all of the cards found with the light border? Are the cards that are light ONLY found with the light border? The difference would really distract from the overall eye appeal of the set, I'd think. (And as many have pointed out through the years, this set doesn't have a lot of eye appeal to begin with!) >>
There are two different border colors on this set. Card #1-64 ONLY have the light tan borders. (Campy and Kaline for example) Card #65 and up are always brown border.
"love when people say this in their auctions "IF IT DOESN'T SELL IT WILL BE BROKEN UP SENT TO PSA" Send it, send it!!

I will agree that the price he is trying to get for the set is NO bargain.

i think its a great set! I like the TV look.. (not necessarily this sellers in particular)..
<< <i>The reason this guy hasn't sent his NM-MT set in for grading is the fact that it will grade EX-MT and he probably knows that. Most of the cards he shows (presumably the nicest ones) are not centered and have some real corner wear. He claims the Aaron is MINT (as in PSA 9 or 10), but white corners are clearly visible, so the card is likely a PSA 7 (maybe a shot at an 8), so that tells you just how vastly overgraded his description is. >>
Agree 100%
Centering is a big problem with this set - and PSA is absolutely brutal and unforgiving when it comes to grading. Even some of the cards that are close to perfectly centered left-to-right appear to be not centered so well from top to bottom. And that is also problematic when it comes to grading.
Surprises do happen in grading. I've heard of raw cards that end up in PSA 8 holder that end up going for 20x what the raw card cost. But, for $5,000, and with a weak set of stars [particularly Mantle, which I think would 5...], I would not take the gamble. Also consider that it is a $2,000 - $2,500 investment to grade these cards out. Plus - there is an implicit assumption that all of these cards would grade. I would like to physically inspect the cards before I make a clear determination on such an assertion.
Just because he hasn't had his cards graded doesn't make him an evil sort. LOL

here
Honsetly - if 50% of this set graded out at PSA 8, he is underpricing the set by many times. I would easily pay $10,000+ for any random 160 different 1955 Bowman cards in PSA 8 NM/MT...
I don't think too many people are willing to leave that much money on the table - which leads me to question the assumptions/assertions that go into such a sale.
There are about 40 cards i want to upgrade for my set, so if this set doesn't sell you know whose door I will be knocking at.

As for the set, all of the cards pictured appear to be trimmed.
<< <i>lostdart58, are you the seller?
No I am not the seller , nor do I have any financial interest. As I have said I have bought many cards from this seller and as far as I am concerned he is one of the best on EBAy.

A rather BOLD (even ridiculous) statement from such small scans.
