New Buffalo Nickels..

p8ntp8nt Posts: 2,947 ✭✭✭
Hello, I have spent all day driving and phoning banks to see if they had any of the new Buffalo nickels.. No luck. I have tried corporate office banks, branches, everything. I called one bank branch and they said call headquarters downtown, so I called them and they said call the branches or go to the mint's website. So, I was wondering (Especially if you are on Oregon), what banks have them? Did you get yours someplace other than a bank or the mint?

  • I got mine at a bank in TX, but supposedly they only had a few. The only way that I got these is that I starting begging my banker guy two months ago for some, and still begging.

What get's me is that you can't just go to bank and ask for them and get them around here. The bank is hoarding them for their friends, I guess. None of my relatives have been able to find any either, in various other parts of Texas and they all just say they don't have any - wonder why?

Maybe because they dispursed $100K worth in Washington and people just came in and got as many rolls as they wanted. Guess Washington is much more important than the rest of the US.

Neptune, I got that feeling when I asked. (Crossing the bankers mind: Just some stupid short kid coming in asking for these new nickels again. He probably wants to get 5.00 dollars worth. Why even waste my time? I'll go walk over to another counter, make it look like Im asking someone else, and say no. Then after work I will buy them all and sell them on eBay to make a fortune!)

  • I got mine from the bank here by having my dad get them for me he goes to the bank every day for his business I told him when they should arrive and here asked one morning and she said that they would be coming in the afternoon but she would hold a few rolls for him. I got them the next day. But when I went in to the bank that some afternoon the lady said she didn't know if they would be getting any at all. So it all depends on who you know at the bank.

Am I wrong, or do most coins that are in bank rolls like this come out MS 63/64 at best????? I hear that the best shot of getting the 65/66/67's is in the Mint Sets. Heck, the US Mint Bison rolls that have been opened up by numerous people on these boards are reportedly turning out coins in terrible condition (I have yet to open mine). What makes people think that the banks rolls will be better than the mint rolls?

I just purchased my 05' Bison and Ocean Nickels in PCGS PR69DCAM.

  • I haven't opened any of my rolls yet not sure what i plan to do with them so I could'nt tell you.
  • Don't open the mint rolls. Search the bank rolls.

Bought my roll from McD's! Although the clerk tried to charge me 5 bucks for a 2 dollar roll of nickels. When I got them home they looked like crap. Nice and shiny with plenty of marks on the rims, cheek, and nose for some reason. I like the design alot. The lettering style they have switched to does nothing for me, please bring back that nice italic.

  • Hello all,

Try Bank of America, they have really been working on their customer service lately. image

On a side note, I asked a teller if they were going to order any (before March), she said yes. I gave them a week after issue day to get them and then called their customer service # and spoke with a teller that told me they were in. I then headed in and asked one of the tellers "do you have any new nickels?".

    (Teller) New Nickels?

(Me) Ask somebody, I know you do.

    ::Teller talks to senior teller::

(Sr. Teller) Yes we do, they're in the back.

They actually allowed me to buy as many as I wanted. image

  • None of the banks around here have them. I've got a friend in Buffalo NY, a bank near her didn't have any. I've got a friend in LA, haven't heard from him if a bank near him has any.

So I haven't seen any of them yet, or any other 2005 coin for that matter.

imageimage Got one roll of each today. I pulled a coin out of the middle of each. Heres the pictures. We're overpaying someone in Quality Control or the Mint needs to upgrade equipment if this is the best they can do!!! Lee
