2005 ASE Proofs

Even though I am a big fan of "Modern Crap", I personally don't care much for the ASE Proofs. I'm not sure why, because I like the ASE's in MS. If you like the ASE Proofs, can you tell me why?

They are very beautiful. The down part is that they are ridiculously expensive

Gorgious Black and White frost, Outstanding contrast, Lots of mirror, and lots of detail on such a large coin.
If you want to impress your guests, and gets lots of oohs and awes from the kids, just bring out a couple of these babies.
    The weight alone is impressive.
As to the price, I think they are quite reasonable.

I like bright and shiny objects. Proud owner of complete set PF 70 Ultra Cameo ASE Proof 1986-2004(except for 1995-W and 1993 in PF 69 NGC UC-talk about expensive in 70 grades!). Complete set MS 69 NGC Set also. Coin appeal is subjective. I just love the walking liberty design. Hoping that they will end this series soon.

  • It's funny, I like these coins and at one point owned a set of ASE's MS69 that I assembled.....I still have the raw set, which I think I will keep for just looking at......how many of these PR's have seen any kind of increase from the issue price.

That pretty much sums up why I like 'em too. image

The 1993 PF 70's in NGC are going for close to 5000-6000 range. 1993 in 69 around $200.00. The 1995 W the key date(only 30,000 minted) in PF 70 UC goes for around the $7000.00, in 69 for around $3000. Other key dates are the 1994,1995, 1988, 1996. Of course this all changes depending on the populations.

  • There is a 1995 W PF#70 NGC on Teletrade tomorrow.

Wonderful AW design on obverse! The herldric Eagle on the reverse is stunning. Its an affordable coin which is "man sized" You just cannot beat the frost and field contrast.

I used to like them a lot until a saw and bought a brilliant Walking Liberty half. Since then the appeal is gone for some reasonimage

As has been stated before, a LOT of the appeal is that it is made from a purified precious metal, has a great design on the front and a another good design on the back, always has a large amount of frost contrasting with deep mirrored fields, is large in size, and is affordable. A good number of collectors simply cannot afford the larger sized gold and platinum proofs. I would kill to have a one ounce gold proof, and even more for a one ounce platinum proof, but I simply cannot afford them. (The buyer's remorse after plunking down the $1000 for those would just be way too much). So I've had to settle for a small 1/4 oz gold proof and a 1/10th ounce platinum proof. So for me, its the affordability of the silver proof. Compared to the bigger brothers, it's dirt cheap. image
I collect the elements on the periodic table, and some coins. I have a complete Roosevelt set, and am putting together a set of coins from 1880.

I would say the size thing would be true.

I can get the big silver one but only the 1/10 gold and platinum one.

If you don't like the coin/series for some reason that is your choice and more coins for the rest of us.

(Old man) Look I had a lovely supper, and all I said to my wife was, “That piece of halibut was good enough for Jehovah”.

(Priest) BLASPHEMY he said it again, did you hear him?
  • A proof SAE is what got me into collecting. The second i saw that beauty....i was forever "hooked". image
