Opinions on Vintage Crossovers

I'm interested in the opinions of board members on the old question of "to crack or not to crack" when trying to crossover vintage cards to PSA. I have some SGC, GAI and CSA cards that are very nice, but am not sure whether to crack them out and submit or to submit in their holders.
What are your current opinions on this topic?
Thanks in advance.

With CSA - there is a greater possibility the card is trimmed. It might be better to submit to a cross-over service.
With star cards - you are potentially making a hundred or thousand+ dollar bet on the cross if you crack. In those instances, a $15 review by PSA does not seem unreasonable.
With commons, and lower dollar cards, crack and resubmit seems best - but first, spend a lot of time with the card before cracking. If you do not think it has a 90+% chance of crossing - don't bother. Anything lesser than that, submit in the holder via crossover. Greater than that, crack and resubmit.

I have sent in maybe a dozen or two cards for crossover. Uncracked. About 2/3's of them have crossed striaght over. Never an upgrade but i have heard of those. I have even crossed 10's to 10's and 9's to 9's. It is worth the money, no doubt. Of the ones that didn't cross, most were my fault on re-examination. Usually a centering problem that I did not look close enough on. But there have been a couple that have fallen through that whole process without crossing or my fulling understanding. Those I will crack and resubmit. Seems once you crack it, it is hard to put it back in the original holder. Take all the options you have before that.
Good Luck,

PSA-6, '67 Banks from a SGC-86 to a PSA-8).
The ones that did not cross were in SGC holders and were very close on centering -- these guys needed to be cracked out to get them into the equivalent holder.
My advice would be to give it a shot in the original holders and then re-evaluate when you get the results. As MS stated, if they are high dollar cards, it is a very minor price to pay.
