Take a look at this Bonds Auction

Bonds Link

Interesting comments by the seller. I am not sure if he is wanting to sell a card or make a statement. It made me look. By the way, I am a Bonds fan.

I have no idea what this means? This morning on ESPN, Bobby Knight was interviewed and asked about Bonds and steroids and alluded to the skill it takes to hit a ball. It takes tremendous skill to hit a ball but with respect to taking a drug that grants a person more power - the skill is rendered moot and irrelevant to the fair play and even playing field that is expected for every player.

The guy is making a statement or is confused?

Sounds like he's doing both...love the auction, though.

However, it has a qualifier, wonder if he had planned on mentioning it, or if he was using his auction as a means to hide it?

Stone--I don't quite follow the Knight statement. Was he saying that 'roids don't make any difference? That sure doesn't sound like Knight.

Knight was being interviewed about the NCAA Bkb tournament and was asked other questions to include the steroid issue in the pros and college and about Bonds. It sounded like he was trying to get off the steroid issue, as such, and focus on the fact that (with or w/o steroids) it's hard to hit a baseball.
At least that's what I recollect or got out of the conversation with respect to Bonds.

I have heard a lot of people talk about how hard it is to hit a baseball - I agree - it's just that the skill and the question of drugs are totally different topics and the fact that a player has skills in no way mitigates the infraction. I didn't really mean to hijack this thread with a discussion of steroids - it was just interesting how there seems to be an attempt to "deflect" the issue of steroids by discussing the great skill it takes to hit a ball and especially to launch it into McCovey Cove e.g.

    No Mac
He was just kind of talking about the skill it takes to hit a baseball and not address Bonds and steroids together I believe.

Bonds said this to some sports writers.
    Good for you.
  • Did you catch this hidden gem in the description ....

"It’s clear that Barry Bonds never took steroids"

This is an allusion to the particular formulation that BALCO invented - "Clear" is their name for the skin absorbed designer steroid THG that they synthesized.

I wonder if he's more mad at Bonds, or the fact his '87 Fleer came back a PSA 8 (PD). lol
  • His tactic is to shift the focus from the card to Bonds himself. That way, the buyer may be surprised when he receives a PSA 8 PD card in the mail.

At least he had a little creativity in his tactics. He got $28 for a 1987 card graded NrMt/Mt with a printing defect. I think you'd struggle to sell an 87/88 Fleer Michael Jordan graded the same for that much, and he's the greatest of our era (and most likely all time) and the print run of that card is probably 1/20th of the Bonds. Go figure.
