Opinions please

Hi everyone, I just want to ask everyone something. I bid on a Mantle card and did not meet the reserve price. I checked the smr and the price was 240.00 for the grade in question. I will provide a link for the card. Here is the email the seller sent me a little while ago. " Hello, i am the seller of the 1961 mantle card. my reserve was 210.00. i thought that was a fair price. if you want,i can sell the card for 200.00 + 5 shipping. it would save me the trouble of relisting and I think it is a fair deal on your end. if you want to let me know. you can see by my feedback i am an honest seller. let me know and if so, i will send you my address and/or paypal id. thanks, kevin Cucco" He seems to be a good guy and good seller. So I guess my questions are do you think this is a good card for the price being asked? I bid on it because I wanted a Mantle card. I dont have any and this would be my first. So that said should I do it?
Thanks

Well the centering is not "very good" as the seller stated. My opinion is that card is a low end 6 because of that. But I am picky about centering. The 61's though are notorious for bad centering and other flaws. I remember last year a lot of 1960's graded Mantles came on ebay in March and April of course because of the upcoming baseball season. But $200 for this card you're not going wrong either way.

I think the price is fair. And I would love to own a Mantle as well! However, his feedback isn't flawless...three negatives and a neutral... some about never sending items or payments. If you go through with it, I would make sure to use a credit card if possbile so that you have some sort of protection. This transaction would be outside the realm of Ebay, and you wouldn't have any recourses against this seller if something went sour.

Good luck and tells us what you decide!

  • If you want it, have him offer it to you on a "second chance" offer on Ebay. His feedback isnt that great and doing an offline sale could be like mailing 205.00 to John Doe,Main St, USA 12345. He doesnt have to do anything once he has the money....

Although his feedback is 98.7, that's too low for some people to even bid on this ebay auctions. I would stay away from an off ebay deal with this guy. The relisting fee is only a couple of dollars for an item with a $200 reserve, so I think that doesn't help his case for an off ebay deal.
Running an Ebay store sure takes a lot more time than a person would think!
