Counterfeit $1,000 FRNs

In the March 21 Coin World there is an article titled, "Grading firm warns of fake notes". Wherein CGA declines to grade bleached 1934A $1,000 FRN.

As part of the reasons for refusing to grade the suspect FRN, CGAs president, Jess Lipka states that he could not recall any $1,000 small-size FRN with a plate number of "7".

Lookie here:

Uh-oh, what's that plate number (1)?

And

Uh-oh, what's that plate number (2)?

And

Uh-oh, what's that plate number (3)?

Someone want to call the Secret Service?

  • Sorry NoG,the number you're referring to is the district number.None of your links have 7 as a plate number.

You are correct, in the article they mention that the District Number "3" lacks a completed top loop, that is where I became confused with the plate number "7" which they do not recall being used on the $1,000 FRN and the district number "3".

Yep the first and third are from plate #2 and the second one is from plate #1.
