I viewed this dealers whole pile as being fakes he printed up. The paper was too white for being that old.
Anyone that collects these, how do you tell the fakes from the real?
Many have watermarks in the paper. That's hard to counterfeit. Frankly, though, if you're unfamiliar with the notes, you might be hard-pressed to tell the difference.
BTW, there are actually contemporary counterfeits ... of a sort. A printer made up his own for non-existent cities and sometimes non-official notes for real ones. They're now part of the hobby.
