Priority Mail Questions (really basic ones)

Despite mailing hundreds of packages over the last year, I have never used Priority Mail. A buyer just e-mailed and asked if I would ship Priority, and if so how much extra postage.

Question 1: Can I send a bubble mailer Priority Mail or do I need to use the special envelopes and boxes for that purpose?

Question 2: Does Priority Mail include tracking or will I still need to get delivery confirmation? If it's not included is it the same $0.55 as first class?

Thanks.

Just got to www.usps.com; there is a link for a domestic postage calculator. You can enter the source and destination zip codes, weight, and select all services for an exact price.

1 - Priority mail can be sent in a bubble mailer. There are free Priority boxes of various sizes available at the post office (they can only be used for priority).

2 - Priority does not included delivery confirmation. I thought the price of the service was 35 or 40 cents, but it may have increased.
  • I'm going to take your basic question and make it complicated (not really.)

Just a heads up to never use a USPS Priority box or label (red/white/blue) for Registered Mail. The clerk is supposed to catch it, but often doesn't. The reason is that since USPS handlers and carriers equate the red/white/blue with Priority, they might not follow all the protocol that comes with sending something Registered. And you want the protocol - lock 'n key all the way, audit trail, dual control, etc. - if your package is worth sending Registered.

You COULD send a bubble mailer via Priority, but why? The small Priority box is free, it costs the same $3.85 to mail ($4.30 with confirmation), and the contents are much better protected. Just pack around them to they don't bounce around in the box.

USPS will even send you as many Priority boxes as you want, no charge.
  • Use online postage and DC is free on priority mail.. What I usually do is package the card like I normally do then slip the bubble mailer into a large flat rate priority envelope and address it to the buyer.

    Thanks, all, for the information.
