A little advice lease

Hi I have a question for all you experts out there. I have only been collecting coins for about 6 months (Im mainly a currency collector) and dont know as much as I should abount coins. I have a co-worker with 2 boys 11 and 9 years old who want to collect coins and have been looking at my collection asking a lot of questions. They look up to me but I'm not sure where to lead them. They both dont have much money so I don't want to waste what they got. Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks in advance

Buget considered new collectors I would say now have a couple of options.
First is the state quarters collected from circulations and put in a folder.
Second is the US Mint. I collect PCGS certified coins but I still get my mint and proof sets every year and not just one of each.
Check out there WEB site at WWW.USMINT.Gov that take you straight into the kids page (I got lucky)
image BTW I'm no expert my parent's were married.

If you're talking about a very small budget then circulating coins are great. Pretty
good sets can be put together and they can be very challenging. Even collecting all
circulating coins will take less than $50 and that's including rudimentary books and
    supplies.

Most kids have more money than this which means there are many more possibilities.

It might be a good idea to start them off with a Redbook so they can decide what they
    like.

  • A redbook kept me interested and busy for many hours when I was that age. A whitman album or three and a trip to the bank to buy rolls of coins at face value to stick in the album is a pretty good way to start - if they get sick of it quickly, they're only out the cost of the album as they could spend the coins for what they paid for 'em. The great thing about rolls from a bank too for kids is that it'll keep them busy searching to 'fill the holes', and you can take the rejects right back to the bank for more. More more more is always great for kids, least it was for me. (State) quarters would be good because of all the different designs, kennedy's would probably be cool too as they may have never even seen them in circulation and they're big. If you want to go a little crazy, look for some cheapie eBay auctions with old boxes/cans/jars full of obsolete early 20th century stuff so they can hold a buffalo nickel in their own hands.
Varieties are the spice of a Type Set.
