'05 proof sets have arrived

Pretty fast delivery on these sweeties and they seem to be technically pretty well done. The buffalo nickel is pr 70, I mean it is spotless. The roosie is easily as nice as the buffalo and the others seem average becasue of dust or non-cameo coin or field annomalies. This leads to thinking...

the sac has had a good run, I'm suprised it has lasted so long

george has very bad hair, it has to go...it's just hard to look at

the "O the joy" nickel is cool and a nice ending to the series, these four nickels will surely be a collector favorite in terms of series and o the joy, we can have another registry category...the only problem with that is the average scores will all be pr69-70.

the quarter series has found mainstream acceptance and they are an interesting series and that brings up an interesting query...how much money, as in paid for US coinage, do collectors have? Is it a few billion dollars of the national debt. Not a significant amount but none-the-less that is some money that the people, by hoarding collectibles, have paid for but do not use. So, is this accounted for in any tables...doubtful?

I received my 3 sets the other day. Sending 2 back. On one the Sac is heavily spotted the rev, the other Sac has a big rub on the obv.image

  • Got mine today. Big planchet flaw on the Kansas quarter though. Check out the picture below.

A 1943 copper Lincoln will still only buy a gumball out of the machine, but you can purchase the machine and the store with that same cent.
  • Did anyone else have any problem coins in this proof set?

I think the mint will sell a bunch of them this year.

  • Hello all,

My 05's were perfect, not like my 04's (they looked like the mint kicked them on the floor before sending them to me).image

I'd give you the world, just because...

Speak to me of loved ones, favorite places and things, loves lost and gained, tears shed for joy and sorrow, of when I see the sparkle in your eye ...
and the blackness when the dream dies, of lovers, fools, adventurers and kings while I sip my wine and contemplate the Chi.
  • I bought one set and even under the loop each coin was flawless.....should all be 69DCAMs.....image
  • I bought five extra, just for the hell of it....I'm guessing these nickels are going to be a big draw......I guess we'll see....

If you are ever in DC, stop by either Union Station or Mint HQ. You can buy proof sets there with no tax and no shipping. Additionally, they will let you look at the set before you buy it!! So there should be no returns.
