1993 silver libertad $5 or $8 shipping?

I have been looking for stuff from my birthyear and I don't understand why people charge so much for shipping?

Like this auction I saw 1993 Libertad auction

Unfortunately, that is how some of them make a little money, especially on the bullion type stuff. Once in awhile it will be $10+ or more. I imagine some hope that the bidders don't notice the fees until too late. Anyway, if I see an auction with fees like this, and I want the item, I bid accordingly by dropping my max bid so the whole thing totals what I think is right for the item plus shipping. To be fair, I do expect them to have their mailing costs covered, including whatever proof of delivery seems wise--with all the wackos out there, if I were a seller, I'd never send anything without some sort of confirmation.

  • It could be a dollar if you stick two stamps on it and throw it in your mail box.image

Exactly, so this guy would get a $3-6 dollar reduction in my max bid image

How much is shipping? It depends on what you do, but it should run no more than $2 first class with DC.

    Small padded envelope: $0.35
    Postage: $0.49
Delivery Confirmation for first class: $0.55
Average mileage to a post office (to handle DC), 6 miles roundtrip at $0.375 per mile, typical 4 package load: $0.56

Total: $2.02, rounded down to $2.

Ever since one buyer tried to claim that I didn't send him his package (turned out it did arrive, and DC was used to prove it), I have always required delivery confirmation. It provides a record that the mailing was made, even if it doesn't arrive (or the PO worker forgets to scan the bar code upon delivery).

By the way, for overseas mailing, an oft overlooked service is "certificate of mailing." I don't use it often, but I'm glad I did when I tried it. A question of "did you send the coin?" was quickly answered by scanning and emailing the PO marked certificate of mailing.

  • I suppose that inside USA the things are rather clear. But what should I do as a buyer outside USA? I mean, for example, that most of sellers used to write, that uninsured or/and unregistered mail is buyer's risk. In that case I have paid $ 14.00 shipping from Sweden to Israel ($7.00 registered post + $ 7.00 shipping itself for the 8-10 coins with the weight less than 250 gr. and the coins weren't expensive themselves) In Canada it even more problematic! Minimum cost of sending by INSURED mail for SINGLE coin is $ 7.00-7.50 US, sometimes seller demands registered + $ 9.50 !
The problem is that if you see such text as " uninsured it will be send on buyer's risk" you'd pay the insurance, but that will lead to really serious shipping costs.

And now I really need your help and advice: I bought two silver coins from UK seller. He shipped them 16/2/05. No coins! I paid 2.50 pounds for shipping, uninsured. His offered way of shipping was uninsured post. What should we do now?!? The seller seems to be absolutely fair man, but from the other hand, I got during 2 last years more than 100 letters with coins without any lost or stollen post. Only part of them were send by insured or/and registered post.
Could I claim at least partial refund, or it is impossible because of uninsured mail?

Any advices/thoughts will be strongly appreciated !!! imageimageimage

Uninsured, non-arrivals are the worst to wait for. It has taken longer for me to get some coins from overseas than the period that you have waited. I would just inform the seller and hope.image
  • Thanks Dan, that was I did. Actually it even isn't exactly overseas for us: from England to Israel imageimage
