  • Hint: The flu shot is USELESS...... You would have gotten the flu anyway.

  • Yes Lucy com on over her to cold Indiana. Well the flu shot kept me from getting the flu for 6 years. what most people dont realize with the flu shot is it only protects you from 8 to 12 of the major flu typs going aroud for that season. There can be 400 to 500 different types in circluation during the flu season. When they make the batch they go for the ones that seam to be the most virulent that season.

  • I haven't gotten the flu in over 18 years. And have NEVER gotten a flu shot.image

The secret is not being afraid of germs. Living with them keeps you strong.

    Get well soon.image

(Old man) Look I had a lovely supper, and all I said to my wife was, “That piece of halibut was good enough for Jehovah”.

(Priest) BLASPHEMY he said it again, did you hear him?

I travel alot for business, and for years there has been a well known secret (oxymoron I know) among business travelers.... Its called 'Airborne'. Oprah recently had it on her show (damn!) so now its kind of hard to find because everyone is looking for it, but you can get it at most pharmacies and some larger grocery stores. It comes in a tube (like a coin tube for quarters, to keep this coin related) of ten, and you drop it in a little bit of water like an alka seltzer. Then you drink it down. Orange flavor is best.

I swear by that stuff. I have been to trade shows where everyone who went got sick except the poeple who took airborne. Your supposed to take it at the first sign of cold/flu or even when you know you will be going someplace where bugs will be floating around (plane, coin show, Chuck E Cheese). Its just a bunch of vitamins/herbs/stuff thats supposed to increased your bodies abilities to fight off ick. If you are sick it will help you get better faster.

I have been fighting something for over 2 weeks now. First 3 days was with the temperature up and down. I went to the doc who just said its a cold right now. A day later, started with the stuffy nose and chest. I let it go for a couple more days and then got put on an antibiotic. I have heard people around here have been sick up to 21 day!

I don't mean to sound like a salesman for the stuff, but I'm telling you, I have been using it for years and it has proven itself time and time again. Go get some airborne and keep it around. Take it when you first start feeling poorly or know you will be around alot of germs.

here's a link just to show you what it looks like...

    linky

You could pay for it in quarters and dimes, and be sure to search your change to keep this thread coin related.image

If you have so much faith in the flu vaccine why didn't you get the shot? They've been practically trying to give it away to anyone who will take it for the past month and a half.

(I work in a hospital where I get exposed to dozen of people a week who come in with the flu or other diseases. I am the only person in the department that doesn't get the shot, and I'm also the ony one who doesn't come down with it. This year because of the shortage they weren't able to provide us with the shots and our absentee rate is way down.)
  • Hope u get to feeling better soon. I've been lucky so far, but have been where you're at. It's not fun, for sure. Like my grandmother used to say "Eat all of your soup young or else". Man could she threaten me!image

  • Slightly OT: I have been battling a malady the last few days that keeps me from working with my coins imageimageimageimageimage

I seem to have pulled a muscle in my upper chest -- that's the 2nd time in about five months -- and the doc gave some Celebrex to fight it again (it worked fine the last time -- about two or three weeks'worth -- I wouldn't want to go longer w/ that drug if I can avoid it).

Problem: I really can't sit down and hunch over and look at coins under my Ott Light. Hurts too much. ARRGH!!!
(I've been thinking seriously of setting up a stand-up desk.)

If this goes like the last time, in a few days I'll be better and able to jog -- and I hope able to hunch over. I never realized how important it is to hunch over in our hobby. image

And when this is over, I'm (really) gonna go to the gym and do upper body exercises. Y'know. lifting heavy boxes of coins in 2x2s is hard work on the pecs! image
Life got you down? Listen to John Coltrane.

Not so much mad as just contempt for the pushing of the flu vaccine each year (with a little sleep deprivation thrown in.) Vaccines are good, but in my opinion not of much use against rapidly mutating viruses. They become little more than an anxiety generator. Basic hygine, nutrition, and a little common sense would probably be about as effective.
  • I agree condor.
