Some opinions and grade guess on my new 1819 Bust half? EDIT: new pics added (still not fantastic

Please please please forgive the nasty picture, I know it is horrible and frustrating to look at, and its near impossible to tell anything about the coin: This is why I usually don't bother even trying to take pics of my coins. Because I suck at it.

But I'm still curious as to whatcha think based on what you CAN see. (I'm trying to learn about bust halves)

  • Tough to say anything with such a photo... could be cleaned, but it could just be an AU or MS coin...

Remove the coin from the 2x2, and retake the picture image

Tough to say, obviously, but looks like it's got good luster left. Some kinda AU I'd guess. Doesn't look scrubbed & dead, but can't say she hasn't been cleaned somehow.

the only thing i am sure of about it (from seeing it in hand) is that it is not cleaned. I do however have much to learn about grading these. (and taking pictures of them)

Overton-107-A...The die crack at star 2 identifies it. Looks like a nice AU.

Just because I'm old doesn't mean I don't love to look at a pretty bust.

AU details. If you turn on your macro mode on the camera it should be enough to help.

    Try photographing it in sunlight.

With a picture like that I cannot possibly give you a grade. Your coin could be AU or it could be net grade VF.

Go to sheridanscoins.com and see some of the nicest Bust Half Dollars available. They are properly graded AND have a description by the best Bust Half dealer in the world. The next auction ends on St. Patrick's Day 3/17/05.image
I collect Capped Bust series by variety in PCGS AU/MS grades.

Judging from the picture, I'd buy it as an EF all day long and twice on sunday.

Shoot it again without the mylar glare, focus a little better, and let's see the back and we'll talk about AU

Certainly looks like a nice AU coin from what little I can tell...
