1985 Nike Michael Jordan

Does anybondy know any information about this card or the complete set? There seems to be a number of these cards and unopened sets out there lately. Have they been reprinted or counterfitted in the past?

I have seen the set go cheap which leads me to believe that there are post 85 printings? They were actually distributed by Nike I guess - but what year? Does the card commemorate the 85 debut of the Air Jordan Nike shoe? What is the copywrite on the card?

People have read the post but I'm guessing are clueless like myself. My guess is that this is predominantly a baseball crowd?

I know they were pretty big about 3 or 4 years ago. It was a big deal that PSA was slabbing a pre-'86 Fleer Jordan. I still wish they had experts to slab Star cards.

I don't know anything about the set, but I do know that the Jordan
has been counterfeited. The Jordan was huge 3-4 years ago; and collectors wanted that pre-rookie. Counterfeiters took notice.

Thank you for your responses. I have seen Jordans that I thought might be counterfeit. I have also opened packs that had the exact same Jordans in them along with the other cards which were of identical quality. I wouldn't think the counterfeiters would copy all of the cards, but who knows.

From this post I have learned that if there is counterfeitting, it is not as wide spread knowledge as I thought it might be. I plan on sending one or two cards to PSA to see what they have to say.

Is the card that's slightly oversized and is basically a mini version of one of his Nike posters? If so, I can shed a little light. When I was a kid I'd go to the Nike outlet store between Milwaukee and Chicago a few times a year. This was before the explosion of outlet malls, and I think there were like two or three Nike outlets in the country. During one of these visits I got about five sets of the poster cards. They were shrink wrapped and included a handful of cards. I believe the others were Doc Gooden, Lance Parrish...and maybe some others, though I'm not sure. I would expect these to be tough in top condition, as they were shrink wrapped and distributed as an afterthought. I suspect at least one of my Jordans has a pin hole where I stuck it to my wall back in the day.

Based on my experience, I'd guess that Nike gave the sets to retailers to give out as a free bonus for shoe sales. They probably gave away the left overs at their outlet stores, where I grabbed a few. I don't believe we had to pay for the sets, as I doubt I'd have more than one set if they weren't free.

Just to make sure we're talking about the same card, I've included an image of the one I'm referring to.

Yes, that is the card, except mine looks a little different. Hopefully the attachment works. The red square in the backboard is cut off. Also, the skyline is cut off at the bottom. My card measures approx. 3 1/32" x 5 1/16". Is your Air Jordan and Nike symbols pixelated? Under magnification, are they solid objects, or blurry like the rest of the card? Oddly enough, I have opened some cello packs and received the exact card.

I just grabbed that image from eBay. It is certainly possible that the one I posted is not authentic...I just posted it as a reference. Unfortunately, I won't be able to give you any specifics about my card as I don't have easy access to it. Sorry.

I believe the one you grabbed is authentic. All of the PSA holders I have seen have your card's image.
