My baltimore show report.

Yesterday, my wife and I went to the Baltimore show and took little Randi along for her first show. She came home with an abundance of Canadian Double Dollar sets. I'll be cracking the silver dollars out for slabbing for her registry set.
I bought my wife the first gold coin for her 20th Century gold type set. It's a 1908 2½ dollar in AU.
For myself, I picked up three circulated Barber halves for the raw set, including the 1892-O, 1894, and 1895.
The first forum member I met was Barry. It was a pleasure meeting him. Then Goose 3 stopped to say hi with his son. His son got to pick a slabbed coin from a handful I brought along to giveaway.
The show itself seemed to be pretty lively with a lot of apparent sales happening.
I did manage to find one more 1966 HNS Gobrecht medal in silver.
We had lunch with a handful of forum members. Pics will be at the end of the report.
Then it was back to the show. I proceeded down to the PCGS table and renewed my Platinum membership and immediately submitted my eight freebies. Only one modern on the whole bunch, a 71-D Ike.
It was a pleasant day with great friends and we enjoyed ourselves.
OK, lunch pics.

Wow!! Great pics!
Tootawl seems to be really enjoying his lunch.
The show was great and the lunch was even better. It was a great opportunity for me to FINALLY get to put faces to all the names and icons that are burned into my brain. As usual there was riveting conversation and sharing of stories and numismatic conquests.
Ken showed his latest Golbrecht, Tootawl a new bust half, and xbob some Chuck E Cheese tokens along with some Lincoln cents.
Merc put his yes and knowledge to the test with the PCGS grading contest. I'm real interested in how he did. Was able to talk with him about some of the pieces included and his opinion of them.
I was able to pick up some nice circulated merc dimes for a set I'm finishing and some semi-key circulated barber quarters (99S, 05O, 11D, 13P).
Yes, Tootawl did enjoy his lunch. I think he had an extra helping of fried onions on his sandwich.
Later on Saturday Merc, Karl and I had a chance to spend a little quality time at Wayne Herndon and Texas Bullion Traders tables. Wayne lent his expertise in helping us grading some raw Washington quarters I had picked up (merc and I were comparing opinions).
Wayne's wife and daughter entertained us by sharing anecdotes and annoying Brian by rearranging all the beautifully toned Morgans in TBT's display cases.
PCGS was passing out free slab boxes (got one) and both they and NGC had sample slabs of Louisiana and California state quarters. Picked up these for my two boys!

Yes, to those that don't know, Cliff LOVES onions!!!
He would probably be happy with getting some for his birthday!
As for what I picked up. Not much of anything really. Doris picked up another Lunar coin for her collection and me a Proof set. It was more of a social trip for me. Chatted with Wayne Herndon and his wife. Also saw Dennis of Jade and a local friend an dealer Carl Ostiguy. If I forgot anyone that I talked to, please forgive me for I am getting old.
Thanks for the pics Ken. Always good to see you. You as well Don. I should be seeing both of you again soon as Doris and I head up toward PA to go "junkin".

Thats Merz 2 eating, not me.
BTW, I hate onions! At the Friday lunch, I ordered bangers and mash. It came with "mixed vegatbles". I don't consider half a plate full of onions as "mixed vegtables".
<< <i>Good Lord, Merz2 is inhaling his lunch! Was it buffet night or is he about to go on a hunger strike? >>
As for my time at the show, I had an absolute blast... my reports can be seen here:

<< <i>Was everyone required to eat spaghetti, or was there some group discount offered if you all ordered the same thing?
>>
I think only Don and Ken had the shrimp scampi special. The ahi tuna sandwich at the Wharf Rat was excellant.
<< <i>Has anyone found TooTawl's Bust Half??
>>
Yeah, I had "Ken Moment" on that one.
Personally, I didn't intend to purchase this time out - just learn, but I did get a few Lincoln cents for my Dansco and to my surprise I even found a few arcade tokens (including some that must have been from "adult" peep booths - too graphic for even the open forum). I submitted a few things to ANACS including a cameo 1967 SMS quarter I picked up at the show. It was borderline cameo so I'll have to report back how it grades when it comes back (5 day express). I also stopped by Jade Rare Coin and said Hi to Dennis, who has a cold (hope you're better) and looked at some MD continental currency he had (no purchase this time).
After lunch, I got a regular 1967 quarter, nice gold toned 1970 quarter, and a few State quarters I needed at Wayne Herndon's table. I have to hand it to him, his raw stuff is impeccably organized with printed labels, even on the tiny spine of the 2x2. Best I've seen!
Tootawl, I also made the shirt pocket "missing coins" mistake at lunch. Only, I checked every pocket before leaving the place. No big deal if I lost those $15 or so in early Lincolns, but those porno tokens were a rare find! He He!

I just have to say that I had a great time meeting all you Coin forum menbers. I collect coins myself, but mostly hang out at the Currency forum as my interests have changed over the past few years to paper money. TooTawl was the only forum name that I knew, but it made on difference as I had a great lunch and conversation with everyone at the Wharf Rat(what a name).
I hope to go again, as it's fun just to meet new people!

<< <i>Hey Ken, how many new beers did you have this time? >>
None. I had an IronMan, 6.5% ABV, times three!
New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.
I saw Dollars and asked him about his new car. We both bought new, fast cars about the same time last year. His has a huge hemi V8, mine has a turbo boxer 4. I was the driver for Karl and Rick so I didn't dirve too fast to scare them.
I did meet Jeremy for the first time and reminded him he can't get anymore YN freebees since he is 18 now.
I also took the PCGS grading test in the morning before lunch. It was a good thing I graded early in the day. I tend to grade harsher and undergrade as I get tired. The large coins were easy to grade, but I am not sure about those tiny $1 gold ones. I'll see how I did in 2 weeks.
Xbob showed be some interesting tokens. I asked him if he was going to show them to his wife I'm guessing no.

Actually, Yes! Even though she doesn't always appreciate my sense of humor, she does tolerate it. She thought they were pretty funny (darn, I considered them "suggestions").
Great to see you again Merc. I look forward to celebrating your victory when the results of the PCGS grading contest are posted!
