Ok, before I begin, I will not name the seller yet. However, I bought from a very very well known dealer 30+ NRMT raw vintage cards. So I am awaiting the arrival and low and behold, this freaking idiot who charged me 10.00 for shipping sticks 30 raw cards in top loaders held together by 4 pieces of scotch tape one on each side, and throws it in a large envelope bag. Well, needless to say guess what happened? Yes we know how well the mail is handled, the tape is now on the cards, the cards slide out of the top loaders got all banged up and are now ruined. Not only am I out the money I spent for the cards, but also my sniping fees. It wasnt like I asked this bozo to use his own money, I freaking paid 10.00 (actual cost on envelope was 2.44) why not stick some paper on top of the top loaders, tape it down, stick them in a psa box (the ones psa sends your cards back in) stuff it with peanuts or paper towel, tape shut the box, then put it in an envelope? It would have still cost him less than 10.00.These are High number cards to a vintage set that just cant be found every day. I await his response and how he is going to make good on this one. Thanks for letting me vent...

<< <i>I don't understand why people even use toploaders for anything. They are completely worthless and the worst possible way to store a card. Good luck in recovering your money, I'm assuming you paid top dollar for these since they were scarce vintage. >>
I think PSA would disagree with you.
Toploaders used in conuction with card savers are a great way of storing cards.
<< <i>I'm not referring to soft sleeves, I'm talking about the rigid top-loaders that allow the card to shift around inside and easily bang corners into the edges of the toploader and damage the card. Toploaders are only effective when used in conjunction with a penny sleeve, but even then, I'd much rather have a semi-rigid. >>
I disagree. I've been storing thousands of cards in top loaders for 20+ years and found them to be the best economical solution. The cards do not get "banged" around and they offer far better protection against creases than card savers, which can easily bend and fold - top loaders cannot. However, I have been in habit the past couple of years to put the card first in a penny sleeve, then in a top loader. And to go full circle, I have been putting my NM+ commons in ultrapro sheets - which do not offer any protection (when putting them in and when turning the pages), but they display my sets better. For the more expensive cards, I have been going with One Touch.
I buy those Priority boxes 50 at a time through the USPS web site, and they send them to me free. They're sized for VHS tapes, but can easily handle 50 or more toploaders, a dozen or more graded slabs. Just pack some bubble wrap or foam peanuts to keep things from moving around. Very sturdy, safe, and cheap for 2 or 3-day shipping.
<< <i>For $10 shipping, I would think he could have packed the 30 cards in a small Priority box. The dealer still would have made $6.15 profit on shipping (55 cents less if he used confirmation). The box is free, much more sturdy than an envelope, it gets to you in a couple days, and he has a very happy customer.

What do you mean when you say that you buy them 50 at a time? Are you buying them with postage already on them?
Thanks,

1. That shipping experience is totally unacceptable and the dealer should make good on it. Just tell him you'll be happy to ship the whole mess back to him for a refund.
2. I put cards in a penny sleeve and put the penny sleeve upside down in the top loader. That way, the card is completely safe from any tape stickage. $10 s&h would definitely buy a box and packing from me.

thought those boxes were free?
He offered me a refund for my items yet refuses to admit to any wrong doing. tells me that he does this so he can start his auctions at .99 each. He further points out that top loaders in an envelope should be sufficent for protection. I just told him to refund my money, and that he was completly nuts to believe that its ok for me to pay the extra for his insertion fees yet not expect my cards to be better protected...I have heard it all..I am shaking my head in disbelief over this conversation...

It was wrong of your seller to charge you for his EBAY insertion fees and any dealer who tries to make a couple of extra bucks by inadequate packaging should be avoided. One botched shipment likes yours and all his profit from shipping is blown away.
I left him positive feedback but an email that his shipping method was dangerous.

<< <i>Ok the dealer calls me and explains that the "other shipping 10.00- 2.44 = 7.56" is to cover his ebay insertion fees. He states he cant believe the cards moved around...
Just a FYI...you can't add any fees to cover your selling cost on ebay or paypal.
Ok this may be hard to beleave and it was not the sellers fault but my post office's fault.. I bought a 56 Mickey Mcdermott Raw and uncreased, The seller placed it in a bubble mailer with the toploader and soft sleave.. When it arrived the bubble mailer had a nice BIG TIRE MARK and all of the bubble's where popped LOL.. Well the card is Slabbed a PSA 4 due to the crease and indents from the hit and run via USPS..
