  • Guaranteed a fake!! Here is your giveaway zero feedback private bidding, what there doing is having a few of their scamming buddies bid the card up so honest bidders think...hey this must be real if people are willing to pay $1000.00 dollars for it. These type of scams are endless on ebay,I mean how lame is their story here..I took this card from my cheating husband,Money orders and Cashiers Checks ONLY, for he can't trace them.RETARDED!!!!

I emailed the high bidder (rosie7495) regarding this auction about an hour ago with the following:

"So ask yourself this....Would a person with no feedback, who is keeping the bidder list private and will not accept returns and only accepting money orders and certified checks actually be selling an authentic 1952 Mantle rookie card? Probably not......"

I will see if I get a reply.

Well, you have to give him credit for coming with a creative story that involves pretending to be a woman.

That photo, with that peculiar coloring and lighting but sometimes cropped differently, keeps showing up in Mantle scams. I wonder if the scammers are stealing pics from each other. Or if they're all the same scammer.

Since the bidders are hidden, of course, you can't see how many of those 33 bids are shills.

You probably e-mailed a shill bidder. You'll probably get some smart-ass response. The majority of those bids are shills, although, there are plenty of morons out there who bid on crap like that believing the story.

Bryan did you really bid 10,000? If you did and want me to I will dive this card up to about 9,000. This way the jerk-off will get all happy and think he is going to be paid. That will really get him when no one answers his emails or gives him a centimage

Yes, the max bid is $10,000. If you drive it up, I'll come back again from my Canadian ID and do it again. Let's make it a million bucks. I'm bored and getting drunk tonight.

    LM,
I can't go pass $15,000 without a CC on file as
explained above. The IDs I'm using all have 0 feedback.
You may want to retract and keep it under $14,999.98.
    My max was 14,999.99.

Not like the good ol days when you can bid

I just emailed her and asked if I can buy it for $25,000
if she would end the auction early.

Mr. Doofus Scammer ... oh sorry, I forgot he put on a dress to be Ms. Doofus Scammer ... finally caught on that he was being out-scammed. I think it was the $14,000+ bidding and the e-mail from the Mideast prince that tipped him off. Too bad, I would have liked to see eBay charge him the final value fee on that baby.
  • EagleEyeKidEagleEyeKid Posts: 4,496 ✭✭
Darn, I didn't win it. I had my servants Habib & Abu all ready to fly down to Kentucky and pay for it in person too. I did get a response from my email though.....all she did was copy my prince name and repeated it to me. Sheesh! For now, someone saved some money.....until the next time.

    <<< Who's next?? >>>

This guy needs a better inkjet printer and needs to buy a trimmer instead of hand cutting. If you wanna be a scammer - at least learn how to do it properly.
  • jrdolanjrdolan Posts: 2,549 ✭✭
I agree on the inkjet -- that's a weird print texture, as if he used the low-quality setting. PSA 8 minimum -- this guy's just plain funny. And he doesn't even try to give himself an out with the "I can't guarantee this is authentic" speech. That means he plans to go *poof* once he has the money.
  • stevekstevek Posts: 29,046 ✭✭✭✭✭
I didn't initially catch the "PSA 8" statement. That is absolutely hillarious! This guy oughta quit scamming and become a standup comedian. All he would have to do on stage would be to just show that card to the crowd, say it's a PSA 8, and the crowd would laugh for hours.
  • I'm soooooooooooooooooo sick of this bull****....these scammers need to be shot!!

So many of these Mantle scams are just the same card, often the same photo, recycled with a new story. Sometimes the scammer just barely bought it himself on eBay. Makes you wonder how many of these scammers were naive but honest folks until they got hosed -- then slid down in the gutter with the people who ripped them off.

But some of them repeatedly buy Mantle reprints, knowingly paying $100 or more because these fakes don't say "reprint," thinking they will get rich with an even bigger scam. These guys deserve to get stuck with every last one of those fakes.

So who keeps pumping out these unauthorized repros? Dunno who prints 'em, but "starsforless" seems to have a ready supply. They stay just inside the law by selling them as reprints -- but emphasize that the word "reprint" does not appear anywhere on the card. This attracts scammers like moths to a light bulb. They buy and promptly try to resell them, claiming to have got them from a barn sale, estate sale, grandfather, cheating husband, even from inside the door of an old truck.

I think the FBI's internet division should have a couple agents whose job is simply to monitor eBay, buy fake Mantles and Ruths and Wagners, and bust all those scummy scammers. They do have agents hanging around chat rooms looking for child molesters and kiddie porn merchants. eBay would be fertile ground, as well.

jrdolan - they are not staying inside the law, because it's criminal copyright and trademark infringement. Topps is still in business and able to enforce their marks.
