worn off dates

I have a couple of coins with worn off dates. Is there a way or something that I could use to make the dates show up.

If they are buffalo nickels there is a product for them, but copper or silver your stuck with what you have.

I think it's called nic-o-date(or something like that), it causes a real grainy look on the coin, but the date shows up.

It's called Nic-A-Date. It's an acid used for bringing the date back up on no-date Buffalo nickels. After you use it, you have a "damaged" coin, but you'll know the date, at least. An acid-restored Buffalo is better than a no-date Buffalo.

That's just for nickels, though. In most cases, if your no-date coin is copper or silver or gold, you're pretty much stuck with guessing, unless there are other clues like die characteristics or something to go by.

Where would I be able to find this?
  • I see it on Ebay sometimes. Try looking in "coin supplies".
