Hello. I'm a long time collector. I primarily collect Morgans in a date set and type coins in a basic type set. I also use the grading services and I've noticed a disturbing situation. Some of the coins that I had slabbed by ANACS are oxidizing in their holders and turning various shades of ugly. Most are dark colors, even black. Is this the result of ANACS having an inferior holder or could it be the condition of the coins prior to slabbing? My coins in PCGS and NGC holders don't have these problems and they were stored in the same manner. I'm enjoying the message boards so far. Thanks.

Apropos of the coin posse/aka caca: "The longer he spoke of his honor, the tighter I held to my purse."
And welcome to the boards
Slabs are made of inert material that will not contribute to your problem. However, slabs are not airtight and the environment of your storage could be the culprit. But since it is not effecting coins in your other slabs I suspect that someone messed with the coins prior to the slabbing and they are turning now. Fact is the slab will retard the coin turning so it can sometimes take awhile for this to occur. I wonder if you bought these Anacs slabs at the same time from the same place. If so, this is by far the most probable cause.

Now listen boy, I'm tryin' to teach you sumthin' . . . . that ain't an optical illusion, it only looks like an optical illusion.
My mind reader refuses to charge me....
I would guess the coins turned because of the condition of the coins prior to slabbing.
They may have been dipped and the surfaces left unstable. It may take time for this to show.
There may be a severe problem with your storage conditions and these are merely the first to react.
Hmmh! Some may construe this as toning. Yo AYEEEEEEEE...Welcome to the forum.
