Baltimore Show report-update

I attended Baltimore today and thought it was decent. I found some decent French and Canadian coins. Unfortunately, no British. I did see some quality British, a Cromwell 1/2 Crown in 63 GRADED BY PCGS, but I knew it was $$$$. The problem that I saw with British was there was little if any high end circ available of George I, II or III.

I managed to buy a decent Hamburg 2 Mark coin from MrEureka. The 1913 Canadian half is completely original and probably one of the better higher end circ examples I have seen lately. I also found a 1907 Canandian Half that is acceptable. The Edward VII halfs are tough in EF and higher...

I looked at afew notes and found more of the silk not geld from BIELEFELD. These are so cool (imo) I need to get pictures. The colors are so vibrant. Overall, it was fun...

  • Did you happen to meet Chris with "The Sentry Box" at the show?? He is one of our favorite World coin dealers that hits NC a few times a year. image

Yes... and he always has something interesting. I even bought what I thought was a decent Canadian Half from him... Eddy VII.

  • It sounds nice. I really need to try going to a show sometime.

I went back for a brief period today and there was a larger crowd than the day before. I saw more French and Mexican and British. I actually bought a 1904 Florin that was quite nice, probably in the AU50 range. I saw afew items today that I probably should have bought but didn't... oh well... there is next time

I went yesterday, never been to a big show before. Unfortunately I didn't get there until a little late...didn't buy much (!!!!!), but it was alot of fun.

I also didn't have too much time as my husband was sent off to the aquarium with the boys and that was only good for about 3 hours. I really didn't have time to do much hunting. It was more of a run around the room and see what there is type day.

Got one medal from a nice old guy, asked alot of questions of the medal people too. Got some business cards etc. Very helpful and nice! I saw one medal I've been lusting for, but it was just too beat up image.

Spent some time at the ANACS booth--they don't make you join a club to put your stuff in protect-it-from-the-children-plastic (the young lady there had a funny story about a slab and a dog). I was mostly putting in some of my modern world gold bullion. I like how they will give a quickie estimate on grading. I did that with a couple other items, was happy to see I was mostly in the ballpark, though I was disappointed with a 1902 matte proof crown I'd gotten --I thought it would do better. I wonder if the guy knew their history? The matte golds can be confusing, so I suppose the matte silvers too. Oh well, I still think it is beautiful!

Got a couple cards from some people selling bullion type stuff for future reference. I bought a couple 10 oz. silver Australian Lunars from a guy with better pricing that you'd see on ebay or from my usual on-line places, and no shipping charges! Embarassingly, I now have the complete set. Until next year.

Traded a nice PCGS-slabbed peace dollar for some gold bullion. It was the first coin I bought of significance after re-finding coin collecting. No loyalty. But I have another, and just don't want more than one.

Admired some actual lite-side coins--I must admit that the toned Morgans at the WayneHerndon/TBT joint table were impressive. Mr. Herndon was caught in the act of being very friendly and helpful to a YN, which was very nice to see. Some other dealers were overheard being dismissive and/or condescending (no dealers I recognized though).

Andy Lustig looks nothing like a fluffy white dog.

Airplanenut has a much deeper voice than I would have expected.

Ksteelheader was spotted sitting at the PCGS table, no baby there at the time for me to admire though.

(If these guys even noticed me I'm sure they wondered why that strange lady was looking at them funny--I suppose I could have said hello, but they all were busy in other conversations).

I'd love to go back today, (or get there earlier next time). I really didn't look at very much darkside material (there was a British guy with a buncha conders...) and didn't find anything Japanese. Mostly because I didn't look that hard I'm sure.

Oh, I forgot, the best guys there were the two older gentlemen in the back, obviously not there to make money. They had an elongated coin press and gave my sons freebies (they'd made it to the show finally), and even let my oldest run a nickel (of theirs!) through. I bought a Very Nice Addition to my keyring decoration/nekkid guy coin collection--one of the Man At Anvil dudes. It's even holed so Lord M might like it image, though it now has a nice concave/convex shape. I have pictures if anyone is interested.

I hope this doesn't count as a hijack...it seemed silly to start a whole new thread!
