rookie ebay coin auction mistake (I am stupid)

With so much coin buying/selling expereince on ebay by forum members, I was hoping someone could help me out with my really really idiotic rookie style mistake.

So I won an auction for a coin and the seller only takes money orders. I sent him the payment on Monday and haven't heard anything from him about shipping it yet AND I haven't received the coin yet.

Now here's the problem: I was taking care of some other feedbacks and I accidentally left the seller of the above mentioned auction a positive one.

My dilemma/question: Is there any recourse I have if he notices the feedback and decides not to send the coin to me?

He could say he shipped the coin. Then say I left a feedback already so I must have received the coin. I thought about e-mailing him but I don't want to tip him off to my error.

It doesn't hurt to e-mail him and let him know of the mistake. A week is not all that long to wait. Usually it takes a couple of weeks even paying with MO.

If the seller is a stand-up guy then you've nothing to worry about. If he isn't, then you've screwed the pooch on this one.

Post a link to the auction. Maybe a forum member knows the seller.

    Cheers,

    Bob
  • I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. If he/she is a decent seller, you will get your coin and the premature feedback won't make any difference whatsoever.

If you sent payment on Monday, no need to panic on Friday.

If you think early feedback will cause him to commit mail fraud then you probably shouldn't have dealt with someone so close to the edge.

  • I know a week is to soon to get the coin or even for him to get the payment already.

I just was worried that he might take advantage of my premature feedback.

    The seller is "tpinchicago".

AND yes if you look at his other stuff for sale it raises warning flags (blurry pictures and *WOW*-like titles). But, at $40 I thought this item would be a low risk bet.

  • I say 100 to1 that every thing turns out just fine.

Sellers that have that many positive feedbacks will probally not take advantage of you.

A newb once left me glowing feedback for three auctions immediately after they ended. When his payment showed up, it was cash. image

  • I know its only been a few days, I am not worried so much about that fact. I was worried because I left my erroneus premature feedback.

I gotta stop using the "leave all feedback at once" ebay function, or at least pay attention to what I am doing!

Thanks for the comments, I appreciate everybody's input.

I once inadvertently did exactly what you've done. Don't worry about it. I'll bet everything turns out just fine. But, you might email him just the same to let him know that you "goofed".image

    Ramos,

This should make you feel a little better since it's much higher on the stupidity meter. When I first started selling, I once shipped a coin to an unknown buyer with low feedback before I received payment. He sent me an eMail saying he was sending payment, and the eMail was signed "Reverend" of such and such Church, so I stupidly figured he must be okay.

    Of course, he never paid.

  • I have left feedback more than once for buyers.....and they never paid so.....merry Christmas to them...and I relisted the items image

I also once sent out 76 brand new Atari 2600 Games still in sealed boxes to a bidder who hadn't paid yet....it took me 3-months to get paid......I almost had to drive cross country to collect image

So as you can see....we have all made plenty of stupid mistakes...though Russ's sound much worse then mine image

  • DONT WORRY YET

However, if you need it, eBay also has a fraud guarantee (which I've had to use before). So use this if you have to... The seller has to show proof of delivery and you have to show proof of payment. cm
