What will become of ANACS now that Amos Press decided to sell.

Just read the blurb on Coinworld's site. Looks like the Redbook publisher is the purchaser. I wonder what if any changes are in store.

image With the right Leadership, skilled graders, and Customer Service philosophy, could fairly easily rise to the top! Oh yeah, and investment capital. Lee

Could be good...could be bad. I can see higher prices for collectors coming...

Like Wolf said, it could go either way on the good/bad issue. I hope they change the holder/inserts in some way to designate the change in ownership.

I agree, although some collectors actually like those little things.

I don't mind ANACS smaller holders. They pack nicely in the smaller boxes for 2x2's.

A change could be a good thing, a refreshing of sorts, for the market.

They drastically need to modernize their submission capabilities (online pop reports and submission abilities to begin with) and get up to speed with marketing their product, or enhancing their "image" to the numismatic community.

Once they "modernize" certain aspects of their operation they need to market their product differently to find a niche out their in the grading world. Their modern coins don't hold any value with that segment, their gold coins trade for a touch less because the national "investment" brokers only market pcgs and ngc gold coins, and their grading is "perceived" to be looser than ngc and pcgs.

They have qualified graders and I've never experienced a problem with customer service in my experiences with them. They do do many things right, so with the proper direction, they could make a huge impact in the market in less than 5 years with some savvy marketing.

Now's the time to do it with the market being "hot" and interest at record highs.

I like the little holders. Your eye goes right to the coin. Emphasize the picture , not the picture frame...

Hopefully they'll do better marketing and get ANACS the respect they deserve.

One thing I expect to see is ANACS ads in the Red Book.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

As others have said, it could be good, bad or indifferent depending on what the new ownership wants to accomplish. ANACS is an underrated grading service that has been in need of much better marketing. It will be interesting to see what happens. I'm sure many members of this forum will be watching closely.

As has been mentioned this will be very interesting to watch. Losing Mike Farone to PCGS doesn't help. His expertise on varieties and attribution will be a big hole to fill.
If It doesn't have great eye appeal, I don't want it.

I agree, this is coming. The only grading service that I thought was worth it's money will probably be just as much as PCGS or NGC. Overall i've liked Anacs over all the other grading services for quite some time now.

If they raise prices, it could be good news for ICG. BTW I like ANACS holders the best. There is something very attractive about that really clear plastic and the fact that they don't take up so darn much space.

  • I love ANACS. Most of the coins I buy on eBay now are in ANACS slabs. I've been getting quality coins at good prices.

Is "Redbook" referring to the annual coin guide book (R.S. Yeoman)? If so, I have no problem with that.

I hate those damned dinky little ANACS holders. Can't get my rolls of $50 Pan Pacs slabbed.

Jeez, I hope not. There goes "net grading" for those of us who can't afford some of the "nicer" stuff image

I'd like to see better marketing, and a better web site. I don't want them to change the prices (yeah, I'm a cheapskate), or their holders (I like the small ones), or their grading practices.

I don't think they will be bought by one of the "big two" -- aside from the geographical problems (FL & CA vs. OH), I don't really see ANACS offering any real value to PCGS or NGC (especially NGC, which has its own "net grading" stuff with NCS). The only reason would be to shut them down, and that would only be if ANACS was a serious competitor.

Now if PCGS bought them and offered to reholder any ANACS coin in a PCGS holder without a regrade... Hmmm, that might be nice...

I think they will do alright - they have changed ownership before. They provide good value for the service provided and are well regarded in the industry.

This was the perfect time for one of the big two to take a competitor out of the marketplace - but they didn't. So the big two must have decided to go head to head for our business.

I hope the prices stay the same, and I love the smaller holders.
